Milo's +4 reading was 180! YAY! He laid in my lap afterwards and climbed up and licked my face, my heart just melted. He was thanking me for making him feel better

Awww, sweet Milo! I would sooo love having an affectionate kitty - you are so lucky! Bat-Bat's idea of "affection": Swat. Bite. Repeat. <sigh>
Keep up the good work, Danielle!:joyful:

Bobo (Bojangles) likes kisses on her ears. I had one of "those" mornings. I thought I'd set up the lancet device before bed and this morning "stuck" her 5 times with no blood droplets....I was almost in tears until I realized there was no lancet in the device! Very thankful I didn't poke her so many times though!

I had one of "those" mornings, too! First poke, the blood droplet "mushed out," popping an error code on the darned strip.:banghead: So ... new lancet, 2nd poke. (Success; saw she needs a little insulin.) Then first syringe's needle bent on the way into the vial AND I realized I'd spaced out rolling the vial first to mix it anyway. (Arrrgh!:banghead::banghead:) Removed bad syringe & reloaded a new one. (Success. Shot cat.)
So ... I blew through TWO strips & TWO syringes, all for a 0.15U micro-dose. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: (Bat-Bat just flipped me off with her tail ... & wandered off to take a nap.)

Ughhhhh so sorry! I guess we all have those days and I know there will be more for me. I think next time I have a "bad day" I will tell myself that Milo is alive and I am helping him and him feeling better is the most rewarding feeling and reassurance that I am doing the right thing.

I was thinking today, what would I do if this forum did not exist!!!

    @Robin&BB, @Danielle & Milo:

HYPO THRESHOLD ON AN ALPHATRAK IS 68 AND NOT 50.

    Danielle,

It helps to have a note of the hypo threshold for the Alphatrak always visible and writ large at your testing station. Most people here use human meters. It helps in an emergency to have the correct number for your meter written somewhere prominent to avoid any confusion/miscommunication.

I'll split the difference with you. Do the swan thing. All calm and serene - above the water line. :)

On a more serious note, it's best to have your hypo kit 'ready to go' at all times. For example, I used to keep everything on a little sandwich tray set to one side so that I wouldn't even need to think about getting stuff together during a lower run of numbers: it was there and good to go. If Saoirse looked like she was going to go low I would move the tray with the hypo kit onto my coffee table and set out all the different items to make them as easy to grab as possible. I'd then spread some towels on the sofa just in case I might need to give her some honey or glucose syrup (can be a messy business). I'd then plonk Saoirse on the sofa and watch her like a hawk. Just some suggestions. You'll find what works for you and Milo.

@Critter Mom , @Danielle & Milo - HOLY CRAP! Thank you, Mogs!!! Bless you, Mogs! <genuflecting here> Yes: Under 69 is HYPO on Alpha Trak!
Sorry, Danielle ... but PLEASE, PLEASE change the BG range headings (colored ones @ top of page) on your spreadsheet immediately because you've got the human-glucometer ranges showing up there. Which was what I had glanced at. And someone else glancing quickly for the #s on your chart could make the same mistake, as there are so few of us @ FDMB using Alpha Traks (I'm one of them.)

Why didn't I see the gold "alpha trak" band in the chart? Because I didn't. (My bad!!!) Because I wasn't looking for that. Because I'm going blind. Because I'm ... (oh man, am I going to be beating myself up for a while!):oops::oops::(:(:( (Where's that "a**hole" emoticon when I need it?)

If he is below 200 at PMPS time, don't shoot. He's only @ +6; you go by the # you get at his shot time.

I am not sure how you do that either ... @BJM - Do you know how Danielle can get those BG ranges on her ALPHA TRAK SS changed to reflect Alpha Trak ranges? (As she has hypo zone showing as <50, which we all know is wrong for her meter.)

Ask them if they can change the headings at the top of the sheet to show 68 as the hypo threshold and also change the conditional formatting for the low ranges to highlight when numbers go under 68.

    ^^^ They'll know what this means. ^^^

Oops, last post blipped on me before I'd finished, Danielle - Was saying: Don't get freaked, as any hypos are readily treated! Not that we don't try to avoid that, but Bat has hypo'd plenty: Quick feed of higher-carb canned (w/gravy formula) always does the trick.

That +7 may, in fact, be his nadir this cycle. (Notice how the drop slowed down since the last test, as compared to the earlier drop? Yes, I would check at +8. (You could even cheat, if you want & test a few minutes early ...) Keep in mind that he does have 5 more hours before shot-time, and he may come back up enough, maybe not. This is why it's good you're getting in a bunch of tests now ... will give you a better idea of how the insulin works in Milo's body. You're doing great, Danielle. And I'm right here, waiting along with you. (Milo's doing beautifully this cycle, btw.)

No real harm done, but ... DO NOT FEED anything in that 2-hour window prior to your PMPS glucose test: As that would give you a "false" raised BG #, and we want it to be accurate - for shooting safety. (If, in fact, you're able to shoot tonight - but again, we don't want that PMPS influenced by a "dose" of food. Ok?

Not necessarily a bad thing, Danielle. That 84 is mighty unfamiliar territory to Milo's glucose regulation system. That little bit of food to ease him back into the 'lagoon' may help later numbers.

    SPOILER ALERT!

If you get higher numbers in the next cycle or so, Danielle, don't worry. It may be a bounce and it will clear. Of course, we're wishing for nice purdy numbers again but it can happen when a cat's system touches healthier numbers for the first time in a while. I'm only mentioning it so that if you were to get higher numbers after this luvverly cycle you won't be disheartened. You've had a rough few days of it, and I don't want you to get worried again after such a great day today. Bounces are common in the regulation process. :)

Put it down to meter reading variance. ;)

I had a spectacular one a couple of days ago: First AMBG reading was 3.6 Alphatrak (hnnh???). Tested again less than 60 seconds later on same ear and got a 4.7. Go figure.

Are you OK to keep an eye on Danielle and Milo now, Rhonda? (I'm dropping over here.)

And just to make sure I haven't missed anything, are the numbers in the SS the only home testing numbers you have? Or are there some that aren't in there?

Glad I caught the news at the end of the cycle. Definitely a 'no shot' scenario.

I think a certain little kitty's liver is feeling happier today. :cat:

Danielle, if you send me your email (or the email of the person who set up your spreadsheet, if they are the "owner" - with their permission, of course) I can change it so the colours change just like on Bat-Bat's sheet - that is, change the ranges for the Alpha Trak meter and make a HYPO ALERT stand out on the sheet itself. Hers is yellow with a red font.

The 109 is the +11....I told her to get one so she'd have time to ask for opinions before PMPS instead of waiting for the last minute

Should we all move to the other post, so we are all on the same page?

Sorry all the 109 is the +11. I will be doing the PMPS in 30 minutes and will post it here for advice on whether or not to shoot. Please watch!

@ BJM - Will you post this over on Danielle's newer thread? As they've moved it to the Lantus forum. (Similar title to the one above.)
