    Yo, Honeymooners
    My name is Michael and my Momma's name is Paula (she's great! love her!)
    As of Wed. August 5, 2015, I am :otj:.(Yes!)
    I have been OTJ for 3 weeks.
    I am 14 yrs. old.
    My Mom tested me yestertay and I was in the 100's. (117, 103, 128)
    Over on the Lantus forum I was know as "The Blues King" It looks like I am keeping my title.
    Oh, I was also known as Mr. Green too.
    I feel good, except I sleep a lot. My Mom sleeps a lot too, because she has challenges. (3 yrs ago she had 3 brain aneurysms and sleeping a lot is just one of the complications.

    Good morning everyone:coffee::coffee:
    I'm Michael's mom (Paula)
    I am going to be testing once a week for a month.
    At what point, should I be concerned about his numbers.?

    Michael and I are very happy to be here in the Honeymooners forum! FDMB is Great!
    Have a good day!:)

    Hi Michael and Paula!

    Congratulations and welcome to the Honeymooner's Club! It's the best place you'll ever want to be!

    Michael, do you still have thyroid issues? Other medical issues? Any other issues your Mom doesn't know about? ;) If so, I'd suggest you let your Mom continue to test you at least weekly.

    CJ has been OTJ for over 2 months but I still test her at least once a week because she is on steroids. If she had no other issues, I might test less.

    If anything is out of the ordinary i.e with appetite, litter box issues, illness, infections, etc, I recommend testing more often.

    Some people here test once a week and then graduate to once a month. But a lot of us like to stick to once a week for peace of mind.

    Make sure your Mom has you on the same feeding schedule that you were on while on insulin. That will help keep your #'s nice and happy.

    Here is a handy guide to help your Mom know when your numbers are good or not: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oI_34_EgqeKdpyttFW0oLoG1mbw16IkATAWHhoQD2JU/pub

    Again, congratulations! It is good to see you here!

    @Cat Ma
    Thanks for the warm welcome and advice.:)
    Michael's hyperT is under control. I get it checked every 3 to 6 mos. Should I always test weekly?
    Thanks for the handy dandy guide for the #'s. I needed to refresh my memory.
    Happy to be here! (Still a little nervous.:nailbiting:)

    Pawscript: Michael also has high blood pressure(just Dx) It might be due to stress, since it was taken at the vets a couple of weeks ago. He is on Meds for it. Also, he has chin acne which is being treated and doing much better. None of these issues have affected his #'s.

    I was a little nervous at first too with CJ OTJ but now it's really nice not having a set schedule or insulin to worry about. :cat:

    I don't know if blood pressure meds impacts BG #'s but I'd suggest mentioning it in the Main Forum and asking how often you should test Michael while he's OTJ. Plus, I'd ask at what BG# is too high OTJ. More members will see your questions there and will be able to advise. Plus, you'll get more congratulations :)

    Go to Forums and then Feline Health (The Main Forum). That's where more members will see your post. You could post in the Lantus forum, too. I am sure the Lantus folks will be thrilled to know Michael is OTJ!

    Congrats ! Welcome ! Fred has been in remission two months as of Aug 29. I test on his anniversary date now ( once a month) as he isn't having issues. Pancreatic attack and healing of pancreatitis sent him into remission. He stays in the 50-80 range and still eats Friskies pates low carb. I recommend glass or ceramic bowls to help avoid acne. Have a good one guys! Later!

    @Jamye and Fred, I think it's a good idea to test a little more often in the beginning, to be on the safe side. CJ will approach her 3 month anniversary in a few weeks but I still test weekly, sometimes more often, for peace of mind.

    Vyktor has been OTJ for over three years and I still test weekly because:
    • It's easier to remember so i don't end up letting it slip longer than a month - ocasionally we do go two weeks between tests
    • If a kitty falls out of remission the sooner you're onto it the greater your chances of a second remission
    • It's not a big ask/difficult thing to do and provides peace of mind and an early indicator if dental issues or such like are arising.

    I agree with testing at least weekly. Anything can change in a quick span of time.
