Hi everyone. I'm Greg and our cat, Baer, WAS diabetic and we used this merry band of cat lover's expertise to get him into remission about 6 years ago. We are dealing with Baer's hyperthyroidism and kidney disease but at 18 he's still holding his own and we love him more than ever. We lost his brother, Tiger (my best friend) 2 years and 2 months ago because we didn't realize how badly his thyroid problem had affected his little heart and, naturally, the Vet we saw wasn't any help with this. So Baer's been alone for all this time but now we have a new challenge I hope someone(s) can help us with. Close friends of our have a kitty with diabetes and no internet service in the remote area they live in. I don't think the little guy will make it unless there's some other way to get Debbie (the kitty's human friend) in touch with someone by phone. I tried to explain she MUST stop feeding the kitty dry food but since she has 4 other cats she doesn't think she can do this. In addition she is shooting blind per her Vets instructions and it will be a miracle if she's giving the kitty the right amount/type of insulin at the right times. I don't know where to start with her and she and her husband are only in our area during the summers so they will leave soon and need someone to help them.
    I said I would try.

I really hope someone can help them as I know they love their little guys.

Greg, how tied to her ways is Debbie? She doesn't think she can switch because of the other cats. She isn't home testing. Do you think anyone will be able to persuade her differently if you, her friend, hasn't been able to?

    Hi Greg,

Do you know what insulin Debbie is using? Also, does she have a computer with either Excel or Open Office running on it?

I'm sorry to hear about Tiger's crossing to the Bridge. :(

What country? Options vary with country.
No Wifi access anywhere near? Library with internet?

Evo Cat and Kitten dry in the USA is the only low carb kibble that is suitable - about 8% calories from carbohydrates.
Friskies plain pates, except Mixed Grill, come in 13 ounce cans and are about 8% calories from carbohydrates. Check your local pricing.

In the US, WalMart's Relion Confirm meter is relatively inexpensive, and can be shipped to her. The same meter is sold by ADW as the Glucocard 01.

I just realized that when I get a reply on the fdmb site it doesn't contact my regular email as I thought I set it up to do. I just saw your responses.
I'll check with Debbie about those programs and her insulin.

thanks about Tiger - we really miss him.

The Evo may be an alternative for her. Thanks.
WalMart is near us so the meter should work too.

WalMart doesn't carry Evo; she may need to order it online. If so, try ordering from www.chewy.com
