Yesterday, the big travel adventure. My luggage arrived in the wee hours overnight. :)
    11/15 Recap:
    AMPS 198 +10 233
    PMPS 210 +4 221 +10 132

Neko and I are cooling our heels this morning, waiting for a later appointment at CSU. So I have time to open a condo and she is hanging around wondering where the fuds are. Neko was also thrilled to see the luggage arrive, her scratch mat was in it and she's already said hello to it. She also "helped" me unpack from inside the luggage.

We had a bit of a rocky sleep. I always find it hard the first night in a new place. But what really helped was having Neko at my feet for most of the night. :joyful::joyful: At home she doesn't sleep on our bed because it is too high to jump onto and civie Theo has claimed that turf. I did have to help her up on bed, but made her some steps to go down from some cushions. I remember from our last trip here that she was a lot more affectionate too. Nice not having to share the beans. While the girls are vacationing together, DH promised Theo nights of beer and pretzels in front of the TV.

That's it for this morning, more later. I probably won't post early the other mornings. Today is a longer day for Neko, so I am thinking of cruising some per food stores. Found one that sells her Hyaflex and another that sells Mauri kangaroo. Gotta get out today cause big snow storm on the way for tonight.

@woodsywife - we were on United. Both they and Air Canada are the only direct flights and both allow a limited number of on board pets if the carrier fits under the seat.

KTSS - start making chicken soup. I will need many spa services after today. ~Neko

    Hi Wendy :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Good luck on all today. I so hate the waiting part... Hope everything goes well today. Bummer on the pending snow storm. Shop, and stay warm.

Neko! No worries! We gots you covered. Vanessa is prepping the kitty bus, snow tires are now on. Emma is ready to drive, she loves snow driving! We have rounded up the KTSS. The pot of chicken soup is simmering, I thinks we are ready. Lola wants to know if there will be enough snows for snow forts and snow balls... See ya soon! ~~ Vanessa

Glad you are safe and your luggage made it. Me and my mom went on a cruise once and our luggage didn't make it for five days!!! Five day wearing two sets of clothing!!! It was horrible but a funny story now.

I hope every thing goes well for Neko!

So glad you got your luggage and that Neko was happy to see her scratch mat. Neat that she slept by your feet. Sending lots of vines for today's appointment.

Your trip snuck up on me! Glad you arrived safely... and all your gear - even if that was "eventually". Even MORE glad that you were able to get a direct flight. That was key for my travel there - only Southwest went direct from Raleigh... and they want you to use their TEENSY TINY carriers that were too short for Grayson to fit in!!! I also found a great pet store fairly close to the university, but don't remember the name. FF at the grocery store right on College.

I'll be curious to know what they say about the CT. Please keep us updated as much as you can! Best wishes for this visit!!! Hugs to sweet Neko!

    Hi Wendy,
I'm glad Neko did so well on the flight.
And it's great she doesn't mind the hotel room.
Like you said, she's happy to have her momma all to herself. :)

Ok, this is a long one. We have been back in the hotel a little while. We had PMPS and Neko's eyes still look a little out of it. She was flicking her feet and I noticed bandages which I just took off. Hope I was supposed to, but they were where the catheter was.

Neko's tumour was visible on the CT scan so a MRI was not needed. It is two sections wide instead of three as in the original and also not as tall. But who is to know if the original just went down to this size or down further then back up. I got a pic of the side by side, old and new tumours. Symptoms are different this time. She has the beginnings of stridor but the CT showed nothing to be concerned about, in other words, no odd growths causing it. Thank heavens. After the osteoma removed in August it's been a worry.

The worst news is that Neko had a cardiac arrhythmia while under anesthesia today and lower heart rate. There is debate whether this was a side effect of the anesthesia drugs or her heart on top of stress. Given she just had an echo done and passed with flying colours, but who knows. The radiologists are concerned enough about Neko undergoing three additional days of anesthesia that they are recommending just one. Instead of three days of 8 grays of radiation, she'll get one at 17 grays. It is too dangerous to do more at once. The up sides are less anesthesia, which can also have damaging effects on the kidneys, which are already compromised as well as the possible heart issue. There are a few down sides. These radiologists currently at CSU have not done this before for acrocats, but a former colleague now at NCSU has done and they talked a lot today. They do have experience with single day radiation on other types of tumours. Apparently the SRT radiation protocols for Acro humans can vary from one to five days. More radiation at once has higher potential for brain side effects.

So, I agreed with the one day plan and Neko gets to be a first again. The radiation oncologists are quite concerned about the multiple days of radiation and I trust them. Dr. Yoshikawa, who I have been corresponding with, is a really nice guy. Side note, he comes from the same part of Japan as Mariko and has two cats at home. Going forward, Neko and I are taking a rest day tomorrow. So we can sit out driving in what is forecast to be a very windy, snowy day. Wednesday will be radiation day. Neko will have an EKG first to make sure she is OK to proceed and the board certified anesthesiologist will be around, instead of the regular radiation anesthesia staff. Once again, I feel like I am at a place that has the skills, knowledge and caring to look after my baby. The IM vet, Dr. Wennogle is a good advocate for Neko too. The fourth year student, Theresa, is also very caring. And since my flight isn't until Saturday, we'll be around a couple of days should we need their services in follow up.

It is really sounding windy outside now, but is just raining. My original plan to visit pet stores was foiled. I am surprised how many stores are closed on Monday here. I did do some bean fuds shopping so Neko and I can hole up and watch movies tomorrow.

@julie & punkin (ga) - Colorado Row by Rows are on sale now. Four stores in Fort Collins. ;)

@Grayson & Lu - I am staying across from the IHOP, think of you every time I pass it.

    Hi Wendy,
That is a lot to digest. We are sending beautiful vines and prayers that all will go well.
Have great snuggles tonight while the snowstorm rages. Good idea to stay inside. How far is the hotel from the university? I'm glad you don't have to have the radiation until Wednesday. Do the doctors think that the plane ride could have caused the heart issues? Perhaps the pressure in the cabin?

Thinking of you and sending hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty (with KTSS chicken soup for both of you)

@Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) we are about 15 minutes away, most of it on major roads. It isn't supposed to be as bad here as Denver. The IM vet thought the issues could have been stress and anesthesia medication. She was probably dehydrated too from the flight. I was, but she wouldn't drink when I offered water, until we got here hours later. The radiation oncologists are being cautious about the heart, and the kidneys.

So glad you have a day to chill at the hotel, same one we stayed at, and much closer/convenient to vet school. Glad they talked to Kathy Lunn at NCSU. She was such an advocate for Grayson. I knew they were doing one day of tx, seemingly with good results. Kathy was the pioneer in acro research at CSU, but came to Raleigh shortly before we had G's igf-1 result. We always say, its good to know the devil you're fighting. The tumor is that devil... and fortunately, we/they know what to

... do with it. Is Dr LaRue still there? And radiation oncologist Lynn Griffin? LaRue was the other lead with Kathy, on the octreocide study n drug trial. Lynn was part of their team, and the one who shot G's tumor. Good to have the anesthesiologist in place, and check out her heart. The first day is always so traumatic. G acted very strangely after an hr of anesthesia. Subsequent days were ~15 min, and no issues. I remember him jumping the first night... so afraid he'd crack his head on the vanity or tile.

Big hugs to you both. Tell Neko "no pancakes!", despite IHOP! <3 to you both.

btw, yes Phantom does have that side view that looks like Neko.... that's why I almost named him Neko. The funny thing when you see him from the one side is he somehow
kinda makes me think of the joker or riddler from tv batman.... he has this permanent smirk ...... like he's being tricksy.

So much to take in! Glad your flight went well, minus the bags, but that seemed to be just a slight hiccup for ya. Nice to hear how well Neko did on the flight. I'm sure if it was Miss Meows, she'd be singing the song of her people the entire time. By the time our flight would be done, other passengers would probably be wishing it was a baby crying instead!

Stinks about the tumor, but at least they know what it is, and you're hunch was right. Best of luck to you both with the upcoming SRT. I'll be thinking of you both and sending lots of good vines Neko's way.

Having all your supplies - especially ziplock bags and diaper wipes - is imperative! I love the "singing the song of her people"! Thankfully my guys slept like babies!
