Tink was diagnosed a little over a week ago. We're still learning to check the glucose levels correctly. He's so forgiving even if he isn't as patient with my attempts to draw blood. My vet answered what questions I had, but didn't really educate me on what to do or expect. All she really said was not to let him eat a lot. Not so easy when he is ravenous at this point. The expensive food she had me buy was given away, because Tink refuses to eat it. We've settled on FF classics for now, but will add more variety as I research things more. I do cook chicken for him. I just make sure it's not seasoned. I tried starving him like she suggested. It only made him lose weight (which he doesn't need to do) and become very grouchy. I've since resumed feeding him his canned food and chicken, but did remove all dry food from the house. After a couple of days of his normal routine, his glucose levels are better than they've been in over a week.

My name is Sharyn...and Tink and I are very happy we found this site. You guys have filled in a lot of the blanks my vet left me with.

Hello, Tink and Sharyn!:cat: We're so glad you found us. Tink will stop fretting about the ear pokes after he gets more capillaries in his ears. Did you know there's a sweet spot that you can poke that will make it all less painful?

This forum is sort of like a front door, and you're standing on the welcome mat. The real action takes place in the Feline Health/Main Forum, :cat: and also specialized forums for each type of insulin....so come on in and join the crowd. ;)Here's the link.

And here's a hug for good measure, :bighug: Welcome!

Good luck with your curve. Are you posting it somewhere so we can see how Tink is doing? My Smokey eats 12 oz a day.
