Remember Debra...when you stall due to low Pre-shots, you don't feed

What we want to do is watch to see if the numbers come up without the influence of food

Since you've fed her, her numbers should come up, but we won't know how much of that is due to the food and how much might be because the last shot was actually wearing off

Can you change your shot schedule by 2 hours? (until you can work your way back?)

Yes she did Elise.....she told me when she gave me her BG number

No reason to apologize....there are lots of "rules" to the sugardance and it's hard to remember them all at first!!

Do you have plenty of supplies and can you test as often as necessary and for as long as necessary today? If there's ANY chance you can't stay home and monitor, I wouldn't shoot

If you can, I'd probably wait 2 hours, test again and if she's high enough at that time, we could talk about how much to shoot....but doing that would mean having to change your shot schedule for a few days until you can get back to your normal times

What's your day going to be like? That has a lot to do with the choices you'll have

I am home all day today, and I have plenty of supplies.....so I test again at 10am to figure out if she gets a shot? xo

Yeah I think that's what I'd do....that way you can test her again after she hasn't eaten for 2 hours and kind of "start the morning over"

It'll take you a few days to get back on your 8/8 schedule....moving back 15 minutes per cycle or 30 minutes per day...so it'll take 4 days to "back up" 2 hours

Nothing to be sorry about! This is information you didn't have or didn't remember. Happens to me allll the time. There's tons of food information to remember: Feed then; Nope, don't feed then if...; But sometimes feed them when..., ;If it is a Gibbons moon, feed them, but only after the moon has been up for an hour.

Debra, if that wasn't a wonky strip, that 33 is way too low

Good thing we didn't shoot that AM number if that's what she had in mind!!

Do you have any Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers foods?

Usually we would wait at least 15-20 minutes after syrup to retest but I just want to make sure it wasn't a bad strip

It takes a very short time for syrup to get into the bloodstream, although it's about as fast as anything

When you have a chance, you should always have several cans of high carb food in the house in case of emergencies (like Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers)

The high carb foods take a little longer to get into the bloodstream, but they also hold them up better than the simple sugars like syrup, which wears off as quickly as it works

I have to wonder if that 33 was a bad strip or the NutriCal/syrup actually worked that quickly...it would be VERY unusual for the BG to drop like that when Cinny ate a whole can of food and hasn't had any insulin for 14 hours

Either way, we're going to be skipping a shot again today!!

Using syrup is fine. My kitty was very sensitive to the gluten that's in the gravy of HC food. If you're going to use syrup, you can add a couple of drops to Cinnamon's LC food. The syrup will raise the numbers quickly and the LC will provide a base to stabilize the numbers so there's less of an issue with the numbers dropping down quickly after the syrup wears off. This is similar to the HC food -- there's gravy that's HC and some chunks that are the LC.

For future reference, any time you get a number that surprises you (whether it's really low or really high), it's a good idea to retest immediately to confirm it's valid. Can save you lots of stress and time!

C'mon, Cinny. Surf those pretty numbers for Mama!
