Hello from Cole and Lori

Hi everyone! I'm so happy that I found this forum! I'm Lori, the proud mom of Cole and Casey Jones, 8yrs old. Cole was diagnosed in Jun'16 with crystals and diabetes in Nov'16. He's been on Lantus since Dec 6. He was overweight at 18.6lbs so with a controlled calorie diet and house laps, he is now down to 16lbs. Cole's crystals are under control but his diabetes is not although I'm doing everything & learning as much as I possibly can. I test with the AlphaTk2 since day 1. I put him on Glycobalance diabetic hard & wet food since end of Dec & 2U Lantus but levels still ranged between 300-400, high spikes in the morning. The Vet increased it to 2.5 last week but every day since he spiked over 500. He spiked to 680 the night before his dinner so I decided to drop it back to 2U (read about Somogyi maybe?) and removed the hard food completely. I'm doing the wet food and I grilled up chicken. I did a blood curve over night to be safe and he gradually went down and was 240 tonight, which is awesome! I'm really hoping to learn a lot and get him regulated and maybe once I can do that, I can help others too!

 

Great that you are home testing. And good that you removed dry food. That alone can drop the numbers significantly.

Please post in the Health Forum or the Lantus Forum. There are people there more experienced than I with dosing.
