I'm a bit confused where to post because I have a health concern and we're new here, so I hope it's okay I posted in the health forum too..

After quite an emergency scare, our furry one has been diagnosed with pancreatitis, uti, and diabetes and just came home after 3 days in the vet hospital. They started her on Glargon (sp?? the one that starts with "glar") in the hospital and her blood sugars went from 20s down to regular numbers (I think they said 9?). Then as they waited to give her next dose, her blood sugars were dropping a bit on their own and she hasn't had insulin since jul 3. When we brought her home yesterday, her level was in the low-mid teens and they didn't want to make her go hypo. They actually said there's a possibility it might not be primary diabetes and related to her pancreatitis being inflamed, but that we'll have to wait and see what happens to her levels.

It's been a very, very hard first night having her home because I am so scared that I won't know how to tell if she's not okay - especially since she's still feeling pretty awful as she recovers. Having a severe anxiety disorder myself is certainly not helping, so any reassurance or kind words would mean the world to me.

    Welcome Mel and kitty!
ER scares are the worse way to hear about our fur babies having a diagnosis. This forum is just for welcoming so I'll go find your post on Main Health :)

Oh...I'm sorry and know how bad you feel. I hope our story helps you. Don't give up.
Tiger: 13 yrs old. Indoor cat. On (small amount/daily) prednisone and prescription food for skin allergies for past 10 years.
Diabetes Diagnosed: May 25, 2017. Lantus insulin, AlphaTrak2 Home test kit, Prednisone (2 weeks to whene off every other day - after 10 years on pred) and antibiotic for UTI for 2 weeks. Vet unsure if Tiger is pred or insulin dependent.
Food: changed from Science Diet CD dry to Science Diet MD can. Treats are dehydrated chicken.
Meds: Lantus began 1U 2x/day; week later, upped to 2U 2x/day. three weeks after diagnosis, vet upped to 3U 2x/day...within four days, Tiger showed signs of Hypoglicemia (random peeing in house, disoriented, back legs wobbled - we thought he was dying); we called and took to ER vet. Honey on finger was licked; brought BG down. Returned to 2U 2xday and monitored closely. Vet thinking Tiger is producing insulin again.
Outcome: In less than five weeks, Tiger went from BG 521 (on 5/30) to BG 92 (which began his remission). Tiger (and I) can now do ear pricks/BG tests without an anxiety attack. Our family is grateful! For those of you with long-term diabetic cats, I feel for you. I could not imagine doing this beyond a few months. The stress. The loss of freedom. The cost. If you are newcomer to this site, DO NOT GIVE UP. Many cats go into remission within 4-8 weeks if using Lantus insulin and can food. Keep them on high protein/low carb can food. Wheen off prednisone, if your cat on it. This contributed to Tiger's illness.
Key factor that helped me: this site and excellent website for $20 vet chats. justanswer.com

Mel, it is possible the uti and pancreatitis caused the blood sugar to go up. Did they give you meds to manage the pancreatitis at home? If you home test you can keep an eye on the blood sugar to see if it continues to go down or back up. By any chance did they give you prescription food? Stay away from dry food if you can, it is a major contributor to diabetes.
