Timmy's amps numbers keep going down this morning. I have stalled an hour and need to shoot.

    184 stalled for 30 minutes
    168 stalled another 30 minutes
    147

He's never done this before. Any advice will be so appreciated.

    Hi Susan,
You boosted his dose a little last night and that might have jump started his response a bit more than usual. That can increase duration. Also, if he was about to clear a bounce just as you decided to increase, that can give a downward slant to the numbers. It's a good thing but makes for some stressful dosing decisions.

Here's what I've done in the past with Teasel:
    • shot a lowered dose (almost total guesswork) - maybe around 50% of last dose?
    • fed him, waited 45 minutes or so, retested and then shot a very slightly lowered dose - not an "official" technique but it worked well.

He is now 138 after stalling another 30 minutes.

Well you could either skip or shoot a reduced dose. What would you feel comfortable with? If you would be around to steer I would say shoot a 1. If not maybe 0.5-0.75

I like Janet's suggestion, Susan. It's a bit early to tell but this is a hint that you might be getting to his "breakthrough" dose range.

He ate about 20 minutes ago. I retested him and he is 137. It didn't bring him up at all.

If he would just come up a little...! I am thinking of giving him 0.5. This dose doesn't usually do anything, but I need to give him something right now or just skip it, but I don't want to skip it. I am planning on being home today, but lately that changes on a dime.

You can certainly go with a no shot this AM. You can get him back over a couple of cycles. Just saw your post about giving 0.5 u. That can work.

Hi Susan! It's good to see you! I don't have any other advice beyond what Kris and Janet have already said, I just wanted to say hi! I think your plan sounds good for this morning. It's always such a guess though when they are giving weird numbers. Hopefully Kris is right and this is a sign that you're getting close to a dose that will start to bring his numbers down more!

That would be fine! I agree that I wouldn't skip totally.

These low preshots are great but nerve wracking when you first start seeing them and are unsure if the best way to proceed. Haha

I ended up giving him 1 unit. I just feel like he is going to shoot back up. I may spend the morning steering, but we'll see. That 2.3 units last night might indeed be his break through, but trying to get two shootable numbers with that dose may prove impossible. His numbers lately are stuck, which worries me about insulin resistance. I'm going to try to stick with the 2.3 dose for a few cycles, if Timmy will cooperate.

Sounds good. When you get a chance update the spreadsheet so we can see what happens today

Not a bad plan. We've had people give tiny doses on a weird preshot and then spend the day watching the number shoot up. I'd just definitely keep a super close eye on him and be ready to steer if needed.

Timmy has had a habit of responding enthusiastically to dose changes, and then settling back into his usual numbers, so if he sticks with that, you may have no problem holding the 2.3 for a few cycles after this. I've missed seeing you around here, and hope you and your family are well!

I'm thinking soon you may wanna go with 2.5 just to force it down a smidgen more.

I think that is a good plan. Thank you. He is just kind of stuck. I was holding off bumping him that much because he bounces, but his numbers are all over the place right now anyway.

Thank you all for your advice and guidance. I have been absent from the board for a few weeks. Just juggling a lot of different things. Timmy gave me weird numbers on Sunday morning for sure. Trying to find a safe dose for him when I may have to leave at any moment is very stressful, but I will have to find a workaround for this so his numbers come down. He is feeling pretty good. He doesn't hide anymore. He is extremely social. One thing that is very weird though is when he is high, red numbers, he licks his side until there is no hair. When his numbers come down he doesn't. Any thoughts on that one?

In the early hours of Sunday morning, I was drinking my coffee, looking out at the back yard and a very tiny cat brought her three kittens, one-by-one, through our yard. It was pretty cute until I realized she was putting them on our boat! We don't use it when it is this hot. We use it a lot in the fall and winter, so it was kind of dry docked. We have a breathable cover on it and an awning structure over the whole thing. I have been feeding the mother cat every 3 hours and not leaving food out because of other predators. I don't want to spook her and try to look at the babies because if she leaves, the babies will need round the clock attention. I have called rescue groups and apparently it is kitten season and every place is full. She is a stray, she doesn't seem feral. She will come close to me when I feed her, but I think that is more food driven? She looks at me and slowly closes her eyes and then opens them. I haven't tried to touch her yet. She is just so tiny. My vet loaned me a humane trap, but I'm afraid it will spook her. We must get the mother spayed and everyone checked out soon and we would really like to keep the mother cat. I'm just at a loss as to how to proceed. There are a lot of small places for her to hide those kittens on that boat too. I'm just going day by day with this situation. Any ideas?

I've trapped about a dozen cats and kittens in the past year. It's actually really easy to catch them with a trap. How old are the kittens? Don't do it while they are under 4 weeks... They need to feed too frequently then. If you can tame the kittens you may be able to have them be adopted. You may even get mama cat to come around if she isn't feral.

If she's ready to be caught now just put very fragrant food in the back of the cage. Keep a watch and if she's hungry she will go in. Put a towel or sheet over the cage and she should calm down quickly.

Thanks for the reply on this, Janet. I really appreciate it. They looked to be about a week old on Sunday. I looked at some pics online to try to determine how old they were.

Would you be willing to hold on to the whole family? If so you could catch mom and then just pick up the babies. If they are that little they need to feed every two hours so they need to stay with her. The babies can't get fixed until about 3 months, but should be socialized earlier.

The last 2 moms I trapped I waited until the babies were about 5-6 weeks old when they could eat some solid food and wouldn't be hungry without her for the day.

The two babies that lily had I found homes for.
Bubbles had 4... Found homes for 2 and kept 2.

I cant permenently adopt them all. It would be temporary until I could get them adoptable. I wish I could though. I'm going to try to trap her this week and then get the babies. Hopefully she wont get spooked and move them. Part of me wants to wait until they are a little bigger, but then the other part says intervene now and get them. I wish I had more experience in this area. These are precious little souls that deserve so much better than this. Again, thank you for the information you gave me. It gives me a good window of the time frame I need to to work with.

If they are 5-6 weeks old they can spend the day away from her (with you feeding), if they are as young as you say though, if you catch them all now you will have to keep them all in the house together for several weeks until you can bring her to have her fixed. As I said, little ones have to feed every two hours.... They can't be away from her.

So unless you plan to keep them all together for three or four weeks in the house I'd wait.

Hi Susan. Long time no see. How are you and Timmy doing? Any thoughts about trying Lantus?
