Has anyone ever had a cat with a motility disorder who was prescribed cisapride with a mix of lactulose?

I had a civvy that took cisapride and miralax (lactulose didn't work for her). I have to go back to the hospital this morning. If no one chimes in before I get back, I'll give you the details later today.

I've used it and it was a great for the cat that needed it.

Edit: he did cisapride only. Made at compounding vet.

I had a civvy with motility problems plus 7-8 other problems including large cell lymphoma on or near her liver. She had 2 enemas and was started on Lactulose. I switched her to miralax on my own because (1) lactulose wasn't doing the trick, and (2) it was an absolute struggle to dose her and both of us would be covered in a sticky mess. Cisapride was then added. She needed both. There was some fine tuning to do with the miralax depending on the frequency and ease of bowel movements. (This cat lived in my bedroom by choice so I was able to surreptitiously watch). Cisapride has to be compounded because it was taken off the market years ago because of heart irregularity side effects in humans. My civvy stayed on cisapride to the end. I do know of one person who took their cat off cisapride successfully. They weaned it off. I don't know if this would be the case in other cats.

This link deals with cisapride dosing/usage in pets: http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/www.aavpt.org/resource/resmgr/imported/cisapride.pdf

Thanks for the info! Our civvy just got diagnosed with a motility disorder after several months of back and forth to vets and X-rays done thinking he's constipated (the pushing and pushing with no pooping). We switched vets because we were getting no answers we wanted to hear. First vet said it's either a tumor or heart problem because their was fluid in his lungs. We asked if the fluid could be from him puking so much after each pushing session and breathing it back in. He said no. So this really puzzled us. The second vet immediately brought up motility disorder and explained it and it made complete sense that this is what it is. He also said the fluid in his lungs could have definitely been from the vomit causing an pneumonia. So Miyu is now on a mix of cisapride and lactulose. It's been 3 days now and he seems to be getting worse. It appears like he's having severe cramping while pushing. The vet said give him a break and he will call back Monday and we can decide what to do.

Your cat who had motility problems you said used miralax? Maybe we should try that. How'd you dose the kitty? I wonder if we should try just miralax.

    Hi
My Princess was diagnosed with megacolon. We give her cisapride liqiud compound & 1/8th tsp marilax 2x a day. Lactulose didn't work for her. You can sprinkle the marilax on the food

Jimmy is about to start on cisapride ...does that have to be given before food or can it be put in the food?
