Angel has had diarrhea since last night and hasn't eaten. So unlike her to not want her breakfast. Ketones came back negative and BG isn't an unusual number. :( worried. Only thing different given has been YAZ treats that they gave me a sample of. Haven't started the kibble yet.

Hopefully it was just a one time thing but let us know if it happens again. Of course it's Friday :arghh:.

Could be the YAZ. I'm pretty sure I've seen others mention this. It's extremely dense food/treat compared to most. Good that Angel's numbers are holding and ketones are negative so it may just be a bit of GI upset. I'd remove the YAZ temporarily and see if she improves. If you re-introduce YAZ , do it very slowly. Fingers crossed that's all this is.

Even just a few treats here and there? Haven't started the kibble yet.

I agree that one wouldn't think a few treats would cause an issue but that would depend on how sensitive a cat is to the ingredients. YAZ definitely has a unique, very rich, calorie dense formulation, so if adding in those treats has been the only change in routine/diet, then you can't rule it out as a possibility. Stop the treats and see if things clear up. If they do, you've found the problem....if they don't, then something else might be brewing.

That is true about YAZ, I had to count pieces when transitioning Maury before I could do percentages. Such a sensitive boy :cat:. Let us know if stopping the sample pack helps her out :). How is she otherwise?

What do you guys think of 2.0F on anything under 300 and 2.25u on anything above? :)

With a tiny drop variation, I think it should be OK :). The doses are close enough it shouldn't cause any dramatic effects (don't let Angel read this :p)

Looking at Angel's history, I'd be a little wary of doing 2.25u at a pre-shot of 300. On July 24th a dose of 2.0F gave a nadir of 93 from a pre-shot of 349 and on July 30th, Angel went down to 135 from a pre-shot of 402 on 2.0F. Based on those drops, I worry that 2.25u could take her a little lower than we recommend. I also think she is still bouncing a bit. I wonder if that 402 could have been a bounce from a later nadir the night before and shooting more insulin into a bounce only starts the bouncing again.
You can try it but I'd do so only when you can monitor closely to begin with or raise the pre-shot limit to 350 for 2.25u to start just to give yourself a little extra cushion and see how it goes.

@Yong it's abundantly clear that NONE of our cats read the manual so I think we're safe! :woot:

So we should maybe hold the 2.0F awhile longer?

When do you have some time off during a day cycle? I'm wondering what Angel is doing after +6. While I don't often recommend curves, I'm wondering if it might shed any light on what Angel is doing. She's a bit of head scratcher for me right now. I'm not sure if 2.0F is not quite enough but I'm just a concerned about whether she is bouncing at all and wondering if she maybe needs a longer lasting insulin. I tend to be ultra conservative when it comes to increases, maybe too wary, so if you want to try the 2.25u I think she'll be OK but again I'd try it when you can monitor.

I'll get some after +6 over the next week. Then decide. Not sure at the moment if switching insulins is something we can afford. :(

Quite honestly, I don't think the difference in price is that significant although admittedly I'm not sure what you folks pay for Vetsulin. With Lantus for example, you can order it from Canada and get at least a year's supply for roughly $180 ($15 per month). It's really just the initial cost that seems high unless of course you are purchasing from the US where your prices are through the roof for Lantus. There is also the supply closet here. There are a couple of reputable folks and sometimes members giving it away or selling it for reasonable amounts.

We pay $45 for vetsulin and it last like 3 months. But you're right, wouldn't be much more. Just a lot up front. Something to consider tho. We are hitting our 6 Months soon.

There is a fellow who often sells Lantus in the supply closet and he will often sell one small vial at a time which cuts out the big upfront cost. One small vial is 3oo units so at a dose of 2.ou that would last about 2.5 months for $30.00. Hopefully that makes you feel better!;)

Whoaaaa. I just signed up. What do I do? Get a paper prescription from vet and just take it to the pharmacy? Aren't they going to see it's for an animal.

Seems many pharmacists are told by people it's for their kitty and don't have an issue. You could ask your local one hypothetically first ;)

Really!!!! I thought the pharmacist at Walmart here was going to piddle his drawers when I told him my Levemir was for my cat!
I know when we buy meters, we usually just fudge the info to get the warranty and upgrades etc. and we don't say it's for a cat. I presumed you'd have to do likewise with the Lantus.

You can always post on the thread link Yong provided and see what they told the pharmacist. I'd be surprised if the pharmacist would take the coupon for a cat and am pretty sure it wouldn't happen here but then we don't get coupons for that sort of stuff up here in Canada so who knows!
