Hello my name is Cindy, my husband Bill and I have been dealing with the various issues of a diabetic Max cat for a year and a half. I just wanted to post an introduction and say a few things about the situations we have faced and are facing dealing with a cat that will most likely never be regulated. I wish we had found this forum long ago, but since finding this resource just days ago I have been reading various threads and we realize we have one of those precious kitties that is a very difficult case. Our Max cat was recently diagnosed with Acromegaly, he has also had kidney failure and we give him subQ fluids daily.

I don't want to get into all that here in the introduction, but I wanted to introduce ourselves and I want to eventually share our story in great detail along with our lessons learned over these past 18 months. I think our story can help others that have extremely difficult cases, and perhaps share some money saving tips we learned a bit later than we should have.

All the best to you and your darling kitties,
    Max cat, Cindy & Bill

    Hi Max, Cindy and Bill,

It sounds like you have been taking really good care of your kitty.

If you have specific questions you can post them on the main forum. As you probably found there is a small forum on our extra sweet kitties, so you can post on those forums as well.

Hi Max, Cindy and Bill. Welcome to FDMB.

Some of our members have experience dealing with Acromegaly and diabetes. Please post Max's story and ask any questions you have on our Health board. It is very active and someone should be able to answer your questions.

    Welcome Cindy, Bill, and Max!
Definitely share your story with your Acro kitty, as Lisa stated we do have a few here :). Come on over to Main Health to post some more details :cat:

Hi there Max Bill and Cindy

We started this journey with Jimmy in April - he is what the forum considers a high dose kitty (6.5). I've contacted a vet nearby about drawing his blood work and sending it off to MSU for Acro and IAA. I'd love to get your insight once we get the tests back.

Tell Max we think he's very handsome!

    Thanks Susan & Jimmy,
Max was on 20u lantus per day before he crashed and went into kidney failure. He is doing good today, we have been very cautious with the insulin since his kidney failure. Now he is on novolin N and we just upped him to 6u per day. At this point we are just trying to keep his glucose levels out of the 600-700 Range. His diabetes is difficult to manage, so just keeping him in the 300-500 range is what we hope for at this point, however max has been a very difficult case for us and for the dozens of veterinarians that have treated him. We all travel the country living in an rv, so we have had difficulties in that regard as well.

Max sends his best to Jimmy and hopes he gets better :) best of luck.

Jimmy is adorable, are his eyes always dilated like that? That is an issue with max as well.
