Hi. Just trying to read and learn all I can. My cat skeeter is 6 yrs old. Just starting insulin Novolin 70/30. Started yesterday with 1 unit. Didn't seem to respond well and still high numbers so vet said to go to 2 units now. He goes back to vet monday to see how it's going. Any info would be appreciated.

. Welcome! Sorry about the diagnosis.
2 is a high starting dose. We would recommend going back to 1 unit for at least a week before raising it. We also find raising in half unit increments is a better idea to keep the cat safe and to be sure you don't skip the ideal dose. The number 1 thing you can do to keep your cat safe and find the ideal dose is to test at home. We can help with that too if you're willing to learn.

I brought to a vet and they gave me a prescription and basically said good luck. Didn't tell me anything. How to give injection or anything. Or said I could just change diet to dry food with higher protein. Went to another vet for second opinion. He helped me understand. Showed me how to give injection and explained it alot better.
That was on friday. Went back today (sat) and because it was still high they said to go up another unit. Go back Monday to check again.

Dry food, unless it's one of the small handfuls of low carb food, is not low enough in carbs. You need allow carb wet food. Most of us feed fancy feast classic or Friskies pate. No gravy foods.

Wow that first vet was an ass!!!! Sorry he was not supportive. The second guy seems better, but again it's not safe to raise in whole units, esp that quickly.

What was your cats bg at diagnosis? How much does he weigh

He weighed 16 lbs in June. Went for yearly shots. A couple weeks later got spot on paw like blister. Took him back in. They put him on Clavomox. Thought maybe he had just hurt it. Then showed up on another paw. Looked it up and read it was pillow paw. Took him back in and they gave him injection of corticosteroid. Now weighs 13 lbs. (I read later this shot can bring on liver or kidney problems, or diabetes).
He started looking dehydrated and hair looked rough and laying around more.
Foot issue got better. But smthg wasn't right. Now he weighs 9 lbs and I'm told he has diabetes. They gave him fluids and insulin. His BP was 385. After 2nd dr and started insulin sat. He seemed like smthg wasn't right. I brought him back and BP was 350. That's when they said to go to 2 units and bring in monday to check again.

Dr. Elsley's Clean Protein (can get it on chewy.com or Dr elsley's site) is great and about 5% carb. The other I've tried is Young Again Zero carb which can be found at Youngagainpetfood.com. This one is very low carb.... It's very rich so if they over eat it can cause the runs. Both companies will send free samples to try. I leave out these to graze on but also feed fancy feast classic morning and evening.

Are you willing to learn how to home test? I have a video in my signature showing how I test my cat CC. We use a Google spreadsheet thatewe link to in our signature so we can help each other with dosing advice. We can help you set one up.

no, I'm afraid not. Sometimes you can find Evo, Orijin, or epigen 90 in pet stores though. Both sites deliver within a few days though.
