Hi, we just got the diagnosis Wednesday afternoon that our sweet boy Smokey has diabetes. He has neuropathy in his back feet.
Now we know what to look for, he has been sick for awhile now.
He got his first dose of insulin this morning.
I am trying not to get too overwhelmed, but also have husband who was just diagnosed with severe depression and elevated generalized anxiety disorder with a bit of PTSD mixed in.

Did the vet tell you to start b12 methylcobalamin for the neuropathy?

 

No she didn't. I will ask her about that. He is on Vetsulin, he has been eating FF gravy lovers/grilled canned and FF dry. I will also ask about the home monitoring.

Ok you need to get your cat on a diabetic appropriate diet. No gravy lovers..... Save it for if you ever have a hypoglycemic event on your hands and you need to raise the bg fast. Also ditch that dry food. Most of us feed fancy feast classic or Friskies pate. Some grilled is ok. Here's a list of canned food. You want to choose foods less than 10 % carb.
