    Hello from Helen and Shadow,
We are in Surrey in the U.K. Shadow was diagnosed about 3 months ago. He's recently increased his insulin to be on 3 units of Prozinc twice a day.
I've just started home testing but his BG is not coming down during the day when I do a sugar curve. It fluctuates between 22 and 28.
He's been having Applaws tinned food (not complete) and Hills Science M/D dry biscuits.
He weighed about 7kg at the start of the year but got down to 5.5 on a diet. Then he carried on losing weight which was when we went to the vets and he was diagnosed.
This is the second type of insulin he's been on (forget the name of the first but it's the cheaper one used for dogs) and the vet has been careful to increase slowly 0.5 units at a time.
We still have a lot to learn.

The dry you are feeding is medium carb... About 14%... If you eliminate that you may see better numbers.

Thank you. I think I'll try to wean him off the dry food.

Feed as much wet as the cat wants, esp since you want her gaining weight.

Glad youre home testing... It's really the best way to keep your cat safe and find the ideal dose. It's rare to have a remission if you aren't home testing. Not rare for those that do test.

I can see that Elizabeth and Bertie are close to me but I can't see where Diana and Tom are from.

I've tagged them to come say hello when they can. I'm pretty sure Diana has mentioned she's in Surrey as well :)

Hi Helen, welcome to the board. Yong is right, I'm in Surrey too.

As you already know, food can make a big difference to BG so it may be that you need to ditch the dry and feed a good quality wet complete food. We can help you with brands available in the UK. If you can get a spreadsheet up and running that would be great, people will want to see how the insulin is working.

This is definitely the right place to come to learn about FD and get all the support you need. When you're ready to ask specific questions, post on the main Health forum and give your thread an appropriate title so people can look in and help you.

    Good luck!

    Diana

Just note that Helen said the Applaws canned food is NOT a complete food in that it does not contain all the nutrients necessary for cats. Thus, she will have to find a canned food that is complete.
Applaws is a complementary pet food for adult cats, feed alongside a complete wet or dry cat food including Applaws complete dry cat food, for a balanced diet. This product is intended for intermittent or supplementary feeding only.
