? Yum off insulin with upset stomach

Yum has had some kind of GI issue.
She wouldn't eat much yesterday and she had pudding poo, so I skipped her morning shot and her evening shot.
She ate about 180 kcal overnight---food on which I had sprinkled Fortiflora.
Her overnight ALPHATRAK numbers were 205, 207---so I gave her half her usual dose this morning (1.5u instead of 3fat units).
She had a normal bowel movement this morning, but she is not eating very well. Fortiflora does seem to stimulate her interest.
I guess her BG numbers are good because she isn't eating much?
Or is something else going on?
Do you expect her to bounce back to 3fat units, or has this GI issue triggered a decrease in her dose requirement?
Perhaps those questions have no answers.
This question might:
If her numbers pop back up, do I go right back to 3 fat units or do I work my way back up .25 units at a time with the 3 cycle rule?

Typically we say go right back to the last good dose. My bigger concern would be "why isn't she eating". Glad the FF seems to help. If it was tummy upset and passes great, if not I'd be scheduling a vetty visit.

 

It's best not to completely skip if kitty is off of insulin. Cats undergoing anesthesia and deliberately not eating usually get half dose. Insulin is used in the body to do more than combat carbs in food. When Neko wasn't eating, she has small cell lymphoma, amongst other things, I mostly did full dose and assist feed her the calories she didn't eat in her own. Yum's numbers may be OK because she's not getting food but 180 calories is pretty good. The depot is also helping out.

I agree with Karen, if she goes more than 24 hours without her appy improving, I'd schedule a vet visit. And I would also expect she would need to go back to her original dose.

 

I've been in contact with my vet. She is thinking it is due to the food changes I've been making for her kidneys. Yum didn't have anything completely new, but there were lots of changes. Maybe it was the Soulistic. Or maybe the radcat beef didn't agree with her as well as the radcat lamb. Also she has been confined inside for a few weeks. I just don't know. It's not pancreatitis.

 

Why do you know it's not pancreatitis? Food changes can make a difference.

 

My vet also said "maybe she has gone into remission"! I think she was trying to be optimistic and perky, but I told her that would be a miracle. Of course I was hoping...I guess it was the depot.

 

Her mother had pancreatitis. She's not acting like her mother did. But I could be wrong, ECID. She had an ultrasound in the spring and she looked healthy inside then. They are all under stress since the flooding here, since I am not letting them go outside and their routines are disrupted.

 

Ok, I was just reading Callie's condo where the symptoms described were almost the same. ECID, But my two kitties who got p'titis has slightly different symptoms, other than the not eating.
