    Hello,

I know I've done this wrong but today Alfred didn't eat very much. I gave him 2 units in the AM (459) and fed him but he didn't eat very much throughout the day.

This evening I tried to give him cerenia, famotidine and azodyl (don't know why I felt the need to throw in the azodyl, just trying to get him back on his usual supplement routine I guess). He took them but then threw up 1/2 hour later. I tested him then which would have been ~+10.5 (319) and fed him at around +11 because he was acting hungry and I was worried since he hadn't eaten very much all day.

So my question is, since I've now screwed up the no eating 2 hours before shot, should I still shoot him tonight? I know my PMPS is now messed up since I've fed him.

Ugh I'm not doing well at this at all. :( I've been getting up in the middle of the night to test him and the disruption to my sleep is starting to affect my ability to make good decisions. I also have MS so not sleeping doesn't help with my usual MS brain fog. :arghh:

Anyway thanks for listening and thanks for any advice you may have. I need to get better about sticking to the schedule and not freaking out if he doesn't eat exactly as much as I think he should.

Given his recent numbers I think you can give the usual dose tonight and get back to the no food 2 hours before pre shot test routine. How long has his appetite been poor?

Thank you, I will give the 2 units as usual and get back on the proper schedule tomorrow.

His appetite has been off since Thursday last week. I took him to the vet on Monday and he got cerenia and famotidine and that perked him up and he's been eating a bit better. He's usually a big eater so when he's not constantly begging for food then I know something is off. The vet suspects a pancreatitis flare up so I'm trying to manage his symptoms and keep him eating. I feel like I'm not doing a very good job of it, but he has been eating a decent amount, just not his usual amount.

I'll get up and test him at +6 since I'll worry if I don't lol. I'm very paranoid about hypoing him ... although his numbers are terrible so I don't think I really need to worry too much about that right now, but I will anyway! :banghead:

Thank you very much for the advice! It helps a lot and I thank all of you for being here and for the time and experience you have to help each other and us newbies out! :bighug:

Glad to help! Re eating: you can up his food intake by syringe feeding of plain meat in broth baby food (no onions, seasonings, etc) or his regular canned food buzzed in a blender with a bit of water. Adequate calories are important for diabetic cats.

    Hello,

Need more dosing advice please. This morning Alfred's AMPS is 260, I waited 20 minutes without feeding and it went up to 265 (so basically stayed the same). He's not been dropping very low as far as I can tell. Should I go ahead and shoot 2 units or drop the dose slightly? I will be able to get a +4 test in before I have to go to work.

I think the two units should be good, especially if you can get a +4 test in.
I'll tag @Kris & Teasel and see if she can offer any advice.

I waited another 20 minutes without feeding and now he's at 243. Still give the 2 units? I'm super paranoid about hypoing him :nailbiting: although I know he's not been dropping much so I probably don't have to be too concerned.

    thank you for the help!!

243 is still a higher number but if you are very nervous about him dropping into a hypo just give him 1.5 units instead.
You are able to test him at +4 so I think he should be fine.

Just let us know how he is doing. I'm at work so I may not be able to respond right away. Do you have a hypo kit at home just in case? Honey, some higher carb food if needed?

Thank you so much for your advice and patience with me! I will shoot the 2 units and test at +4. My husband will be home today to keep an eye on him too (although he doesn't know how to test yet). I'm a high anxiety person so I tend to freak out needlessly! :banghead:

    Thank you!

Yes I have honey and Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers. I gave him 1.75 units. Will try to get a +2 and a +4 before I go to work.

You're welcome. I am an anxious person myself so I totally get it.

    His +2 was 279

    +4 179

I think he'll be fine, but I've shown my husband how to test and told him what to do if he goes under 50, so I think he'll be good.

    Thank you! :cat:

He should be fine since his +4 was 179, another 2 hours and he will be halfway through his cycle.
