    Hello!

I have been lurking on this site for about 2 months. My boy Sebastian was diagnosed with diabetes at age 10 at the end of July. He had increased water intake and urine output and had lost 2 pounds by the time we took him to the vet (from 10.5 lb to 8.5 and then it went down further to 7.8 lb). Looking back I feel very guilty we didn't take him to the vet sooner. We had just taken him in for urine crystals a few months prior and felt like the increased urine output was a good thing :( We also noticed his weight loss, but had incorrectly assumed it was just due to him getting older and tried to just give him more food. He also gets crazy bad anxiety when he is held and taken anywhere so I didn't want to cause him the stress of an unneeded vet appointment. I am working to be much more in tune with him and his needs and now he is a little better with the vet, but he still gets so upset when he feels he has lost control (in a carrier, away from home, or being held).

The information I have found here has been so incredibly helpful for myself and my husband as we work to get Sebastian regulated. I have what I believe is the most pertinent info in my signature...let me know if it could use any work :) I will be heading over to the health advice threads this evening since I completed our first curve this last weekend and would like some input on steps going forward. My vet is out of the office until Wednesday so I figured this was the perfect time to start my FDMB presence. Thanks all!

Welcome, Krista and Sebastian! Good job on already having your signature set up, and it sounds like you are doing home testing (you mentioned completing a curve), so kudos for that. :) You will want to consider setting up a spreadsheet next.

See you on the Health Forum!

Thanks so much for the link to the spreasheets! I will be working on that this evening. We just started home testing this last weekend. We would have started earlier but the glucometer I got from Walgreens was crap and needed more blood than I could get. We now have a much nicer meter and can get tests done easily (well, relatively considering his aversion to being held).
