A few months ago Myrtle's blood test showed that she was borderline CKD so we have had a couple of blood tests since to see if it is progressing but the good news is that she is fairly stable. We went for the latest blood test on Saturday and the thing is, pre vet visit she seemed happy and healthy - she does get REALLY stressed by the car trip and the visit but usually gets over it fairly quickly. On Saturday, the vet had trouble getting blood out of her so took her out the back and she (Myrtle) also has a couple of inflammed teeth so will need a dental. Since coming home from the vet though she has little appetite - will start eating her regular food then stop but will eat it if I mix tuna with it - I wasn't too worried about this but last night she kept getting up off the bed and then would come back over and over, this morning she came back to bed around 5am and kept grooming herself and then went to lie down by herself in the corner of the room (really unusual - usually she sticks to my side all night long). It was a little warmer last night as the days are heating up but not so warm that she would want be far from me.

I'm wondering if when the vet touched her inflammed teeth that it caused pain that hasn't gone away? and I'm wondering if she needs antibiotics. Are antibiotics bad for diabetic cats in remission? This morning I tested her BG and it was 7.5 (135), I'm not sure if this is usual for her as I usually test her 3-4 hours after eating and, as the vet said, if she's low at 3-4hrs then she doesn't need insulin as her pancreas is working - and she has been in good numbers (I'll re-test at 3-4 hrs again today as I'm home). The only other thing is that I did a spot on treatment on Monday (Revolution) but I don't ever remember her having this kind of reaction.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated, thanks for your help as always.

Wish I had some answers. It sounds like she is "uneasy" in her body like having some achy pain. Any signs of acidic tummy?

May be it is just a series of things being strung together.

:arghh:She had a big poop after I posted and I thought maybe she had just had a tummy ache after all but at 3.5 hours after eating, Myrtle's bg has hardly changed - it's 7.4 (133) now compared to the usual 4.7-4.9 (84-88) at this time of the day. I've put a phone call in to the vet to see if he thinks that touching those inflamed teeth the other day could have caused pain/infection that is causing her bg to rise and if he thinks a round of antibiotics will be worth trying. (Her bg was just 4.7 - 84 the day before the vet visit!). I just want to cry, I don't think I can handle Myrtle with diabetes again as my mum had a heart attack followed by a bout of pneumonia in the last few months and the word "exhausted" doesn't even begin to cover how I'm feeling.

Hopefully all settles down with a few days of antibiotics.

Hope she will be better soon. I really have no such experience. Hugs to you!

Her teeth could definitely be bothering her. One of my previous cats stopped eating all together when she had some bad teeth that I didn't even know of at the time. My current kitty's BG can go up 100 points sometimes if he has a stressful vet visit. It would sometimes take a couple days of him being home and relaxed before it went back down.

It definitely could be dental pain, which could also cause a rise in her BG.

So we tried 5 days of antibiotics but not much has changed. She acts like she is really hungry but then doesn't eat much at all. I've been home this week so I've been able to give her small frequent meals so at least I don't think she has been missing much nutritionally. Her BG has been a little higher than usual at 3-4hours post meal but fairly stable at around 6.0 (108).

Today is a lovely day and she wanted to go outside so I put her in her harness and took her out for about an hour. When she came in I went to give her a brush (she loves being brushed) but she screamed and tried to scratch me. I continued gently brushing her to see where it hurts (and got a lovely scratch for thanks). Anyway it seems her lower back is a bit tender but I think the most pain is in the fluffy bit at the back of her legs above her hocks (if that makes sense). Would this be arthritis? I would be surprised if it was diabetic neuropathy or ketones as her bgs just haven't been high for ages. She is lying in the sun looking fairly peaceful at the moment. Any ideas?

I'm sorry you and Myrtle are going through this. It sounds like at least you've narrowed down where the trouble is. I hope you find the answer--or better yet, that it resolves quickly and you don't need to look for an answer. Sending comfort and healing thoughts to Myrtle.
