Don't be surprised if you see a high number tonight.... It's a bounce from going so low today and could last for a little while. :)

We all understand how you feel!!

We all came here at some point....scared of what our vets had just told us, wondering if our beloved furkids were doomed and looking for help ........or beginning to question what our vets had been doing for awhile and looking for other ideas.

It's kind of fun to go back after a few months (or years) and look at those first posts we made and see just how far we've come!!

You and Suzzel have done SO well. High five to both of you for riding the roller coaster (which I'm sure you won't want tickets for again!!) So much amazing support here and once you ride this out you'll be in a much better position to navigate your way going forward. You've had a baptism of fire and soon there will be time to assimilate all the invaluable info you've been given. Well done!

I just checked him at 10:21 and it was up to 239mg. To be honest I'm soooooo scared to give him insulin tonight. I only hope he starts acting better soon cause he's scaring me just laying around this evening. I mean he's not one to be super active anymore being 9 years old but just having him look so pitiful is breaking my heart.

He's just been to hell and back and is feeling just like we do after it - crap. Just give him time and perhaps help him with some gentle music to help calm and soothe him (and you). It's going to be okay and you've got support and experience here to know whether it's safe to shoot tonight. What you're aiming for with him is steady dosing so if his numbers are up then the best thing you can do for him is give him a shot. That way his little body will start getting into a rhythm and you find his right dosage level.

Thank you for your words and support. I don't think I would have made it thru the last 24 hours without everyone's help. I could give all of you hugs but Im already a blubbering mess tonight and I'm an ugly crier. To have some tell you everything will be ok, and know exactly what you're experiencing and dealing with and that they came thru it, telling your that you will too, really helps when you're in your darkest hours. Thank you! ❤️

Well at 11:13 and his sugar is 295mg. Looks like he's gonna have to have a shot tonight. But I'm only gonna do half a unit. Momma is so worn out emotionally. But gotta wait till midnight.

You did a great job today. It’s really overwhelming in the beginning and I think most, if not all of us cried and questioned whether or not we could do this. You had a baptism by fire, so to speak, having a hypo the day you learned to test. It’ll get easier from here

I never used Prozinc, so I don't know what to tell you.

How long can you stall for advice without messing up your schedule?

@Chris & China and @JanetNJ suggested 0.5 units if over 200. I've tagged them to see if they are around.

    1. If you shoot, you would have to get a +2 reading to see which way the wind is blowing and if the +2 test is roughly the same or is lower, you will have to continue to test.

    2. You could stall without feeding and wait for one of the dosing pros to come online.

    3. You could skip the shot and ask for advice in the morning.

You are getting some great advice. There are also some good articles and details in the sticky threads at the start of the insulin subforums. Diabetes is a very well understood disease, which makes it pretty easy to treat.

I went ahead a did the half of a unit or as close as i could figure. Yes I have ordered the other syringes that have halfs but it's gonna be a few days till I get them. He wouldn't eat much of the fancy fest so I had to mix alittle of the science diet in to get him to eat some, still not an overwhelming amount but I think he just wasn't hungry after all I forced down him earlier today. I will retest between 2-2:30am.

Set an alarm. And holler for help if you need to. The west coast people should be around.

You've been fantastic in a tough situation. You saved your cat's life.

Give yourself and your cat a break. Unless you get a wonky, out-of-place number that you think needs retesting, just take the one test. No need to test various paws. The variance will just drive you crazy.

I plan on it, i think I'm gonna try and lay down for a catnap, I'm exhausted. Yeah I noticed I kept getting different numbers when testing one after the other. Thank you!

Amen. I haven't slept a good night for I don't know how long. Of course I wouldn't mind it if it was the other kind of cat orneriness. LOL. Praying he gets back to his bad self someday. But for now I'll take a calm night.

His sugar is 288mg@2:06am, eastern time. At pretest time at midnight it was 270mg. This very tired fur momma is going to try and get some rest now. Will retest again to be on the safe side in a few hours.

    Good job!!!

    Get some much needed sleep!!!!

You might want to consider moving your shot times a little earlier.....it can be kind of hard finding help in these late nights and I'm not usually up this late either.

I absolutely hate mornings, so when we first started, I figured "no big deal....I'll just shoot at 11am/11pm"....well, after spending a few nights up literally until 5-6am testing, I decided it was a lot easier to just drag my butt out of bed early in the morning and then go back to bed. So I changed to shooting at 6am/6pm....that let me get a +2 every morning (if I need to) so I would get a good idea where China might go later in the daytime cycle and then I could easily test until +6 at night (midnight)

I still despise mornings, but it's a lot better than staying up all night testing....especially when the board is quiet!!

Tomorrow, you should probably start a new thread. This one's getting pretty long. Just put the link to this one into the body of your post tomorrow so people can quickly go back and read what's been going on.

    Great job today!!

Better! Thank you for asking. His numbers stayed up and we got some desperately needed rest. I still got up every 2-3 hours and checked his levels for my peace of mind and I'm happy to say he is doing better. Still laying around some and really doesn't like me when he sees I have something in my hand and come towards him but we are doing better. His numbers have been starting at pretest at midnight was 270mg-11:57am/288mg-2:06am/193mg-8:06am/ and pretest today was 245mg-11:00am. I gave him only half a unit again and will do the +2 here in about and hour, hopefully he we have a better day today. He's not wanting to eat the fancy fest so I've been mixing in alittle of his science diet to get him to eat. I think we both are still exhausted from the last 2 days and I think after the next test of its still running ok I gonna try and sneak in a catnap.

    Okey dokey.

You're doing absolutely brilliantly. You've learned a heck of a lot in a very short time! Junior is blessed to have you looking after him.
Let's hope you manage to get some good rest today... :bighug:

Glad you both managed to get some rest.

It would help tremendously if you could set up a spreadsheet. With a spreadsheet, people can see at a glance what the situation is and what the pattern has been (instead of reading through multiple posts and trying to keep track of the numbers).

    The instructions are here: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/

There are some spreadsheet gurus who can help you set it up if you are not spreadsheet savvy (I'm not).

Hi Suzzel, hi Junior. Your profile page says "We started this journey..." and that's exactly what it is but the map looks all wrong and the tour guide is speaking a foreign language. Did you know 653 people have looked at this thread and 129 have offered help? That's a lot but it's not because you're doing something wrong and there is nothing wrong about being emotional about it. We all replied because we've all been there and have our own frantic hair-pulling stories to tell but right now you and Junior are what matter. If things look bad I want you to remember this. Years ago you probably had your heart broken for the very first time and you were sure no one else had ever felt like that and the world was ending. The world did not end.
Don't forget to take care of yourself as well. It's not selfish when we say you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of a cat. Unfortunately for you the timing is all wrong but you just got a whole bunch of new friends who are willing to help you. Please take a deep breath and then you can start all over, every 5 minutes if you have to. Noah says hi too!

Thank you and Noah. I'm so thankful for everyone that has reached out to us in our hours of need and helped get both of is through them. I honestly don't know what I would have done without the support. We are picking ourselves back up slowly but surely a step at a time. I'm trying to get some much needed rest this afternoon and I'm sure he appreciates me not chasing him down every 30 minutes or so to stab him with something. LOL. I know this isn't going to the only time we go threw this but next time I have a better idea of what to start with and an awesome group of furparents that are there for support and guidance.
