    Hello,

Alfred was 67 at +5 tonight. He hasn't been eating well and I was stupid and shot him tonight even though he'd eaten very little for his dinner.

fed high carb food at +5

1/2 hr later (I had to struggle to get him to eat) 79

    syringe fed more high carb

i think he's good, was just a bit scared seeing that 67 at +5 :nailbiting:, he's been running very high since we started back on the insulin so I'm not used to these lower numbers!

will continue to monitor to make sure he doesn't dip again. :cat:

You say he’s not eating well, does he act like he feels bad, or just not hungry?

He's got an upper respiratory infection so he's been run down the last few days. My civie has it as well and she's been on antibiotics and is slowly improving. I will get antibiotics today from the vet once they open and will start him on those. Hopefully that'll get this cleared up and get him eating normally again.

    Hope he feels better soon!
For future reference, 67 on a human meter is still safe, but time to pay attention. I usually just give a teaspoon of low carb. 50 is when you start the high carb stuff. I might have given higher carb stuff too in your situation though since he wasn’t eating:nailbiting: always scary when you first see greens!

Yeah I was thinking that I should have just waited out the 67 to see where he went with it, but I got scared, especially when I offered him food and he turned away. I hate it when he won't eat! :blackeye: :banghead:

Next time I'll do better! :) I keep saying that but there are so many variables at play and I get easily spooked! :nailbiting: Oh well it was good practice and he actually did pretty well with the syringe feeding so I know for the future that he'll tolerate it better than I thought he would.

Good job with the first greens!

Hope the antibiotics will get him feeling better soon. Another thing you can try (if you haven't already) is to bring him into the bathroom, close the door, and run a nice, hot shower for a while to get the room good and steamy. A lot of times when they have a URI, they don't want to eat because they can't smell their food. Warming the food itself can also help to get it a bit stinkier for them.

I don’t know if Alfred likes tuna or chicken but I keep a can of each, w/o additives in water, to put over the food. People kind. Even just the juice & warm it up. That usually does it! I did that for Baby in the beginning - a small amt.!
Great job- steady as you go!!!
