Hi, all--when a test strip gives a bad reading (when it's a bad strip), can it be a higher number than it should? Or will it always be low?

Don't know about the high/low but my AccuChek strips come in a box of 2 bottles, 100 in each. I've had a lot of duds lately and it was not the battery. Maybe 15% gave me an E1 error code. A quick side note. I've seen chatter about printing your own strips on an inkjet printer, I'll believe it when I see it.

I've only ever had mine give me a false low reading or an Error Code. I see in your signature that you used Tresaderm - is that what threw your Misha out of OTJ? I'm just finishing a very short round of Tresaderm, and can't believe how high it has driven my guy's BG! So far, I have raised his dose twice and still haven't got back to where we were before.

Tresaderm did that? Were you warned? I would not have expected that from it's stated purpose, disappointing!

Yes, Tresaderm threw him out of remission--I was devastated when I realized it. I wasn't warned, but that was my own fault--I just used some I had over from his last ear infection, without consulting the vet. I assumed that because it was topical it might be ok, and I tested him very regularly--immediately after I gave him the first dose, and again soon after--but at one point he just shot up and never came back down. We've been struggling just to get him regulated ever since, let alone get him back into remission. @Squalliesmom I hope things resolve more quickly for you!!!!!

I can't even imagine trying to print my own test strips--there's enough uncertainty and experimentation in this whole process as it is!

I know there's a poverty aspect to printing strips. In a town somewhere in the middle of nowhere where no one can afford shoes this would be a better way but right now too many unknowns. That wasn't meant to sound pompous or nasty, everything is overpriced.

Yes--between the insulin and the testing supplies and the vet visits and (sometimes) special foods, it really adds up over time!

Wow, that's scary! My vet didn't warn me but another member here told me it made her cat's bg shoot up (also knocked out of remission!), and since it's got steroids in it, I had already pretty much figured it would have an effect. But like you and Dickson, I thought that since it was topical, it wouldn't be too bad. Boy, was I wrong! Now I'm scrambling like mad to get his numbers back down.:(:(:(

Very disappointing. Like the first time I read Nutella has more sugar than cake frosting. It's good and bad for you!
Kinda' looks like whatever is caked on the edge of my litterbox but spreads like butter.  :blackeye:
