    Hi all,
The last seven days I've noticed a pattern....that his numbers from his amps and pmps are always about the same.... the insulin has the number usually go lower throughout the day of course, but the last week the pm number goes back up to right where the am number was...

Is this a negative or positive thing, or does it not have relevance? I know the goal is to get his numbers under 120 without insulin....but I just noticed that and it made me wonder??

Also, one more thing - Weruva BFF canned cat food - does anyone feed their cat this food? the variety pack I bought says two of them are in gravy (tuna and pumpkin in gravy & tuna and chicken in gravy). Is this ok for low carb...the gravy has me wondering?
This is the food I want to try to help his kidney numbers not go up anymore and also for his diabetes...but I'm worried to make this change. I found the calories online but I couldn't figure out if it was still low carb with the gravy.

    Thank you!! xo

What is the name on those foods? Weruva gives their foods silly names. You should be able to look them up in the cat food database.

Weruva best feline friend variety pack - I bought it from Amazon and I didn't realize it was only seafood...when I order again I'll get different ones. I just need to figure out the lowest carb ones. I can't find these ones on the database?
And I need to find out what makes cat food easy on their kidneys. If it's not a huge difference on the kidneys I am going to just stick with his FF and proplan for seniors, because I know those are low carb.

    - Tuna Too Cool in Aspic
-Tuna and Pumpkin Valentine in Gravy
-Tuna and Salmon Soulmates in Aspic
-Tuna and Chicken 4eva in Gravy

Yes, it looks like they're all on the list. That's a great link! I hadn't seen that version of the list before. So convenient when looking for new foods!

Oh it's listed in the B section for B.F.F weruva...I was looking in the W.
This sure is an awesome list, wow.
When looking at the carbs, what number is best to stay under??

I just received it from Amazon...I waited until I could have it delivered on the weekend. I needed to make sure I ordered the right ones since it says gravy...but those are low carb too! So I'll try it with him tomorrow. Does the Phos number help the kidneys if it's a lower number? I ask so many questions, sorry about that lol.
Ok thank you about staying under 7! Good to know!

Yes lower phosphorus is better for the kidneys. High phosphorus makes them feel yucky and progresses the disease faster.

Your cat may still need a phosphorous binder eventually, but this could help. When my Zimmy was diagnosed ckd he had a phosphorous level of 4.7. After 4 weeks on this lower phosphorus food (even with fancy feast on the side as he would eat the other cats food too) it dropped to 3.9. Not to say you will have the same results, but it helped him.

This is just such good information to know! I saw that the k/d food has low Phos, so I guess that is why she prescribed it...but too high carbs.
Do you have a Phos level that you like to stay below...like 200? That's a complete guess by the way lol. I just wonder what is considered low for Phosphorus?
Thanks so much...this information is so helpful...

yeah, under 250. of course theraputic kidney diets are like 150, but they are usually high carb.... soooooooo, not really going to work for a diabetic.

Thank you...I wrote that down, that will really help me. I'm going to pick out the Weruva foods with the lowest of both. Thank you a million times for telling me about this food.
I'm totally disappointed that I caused his relapse (or whatever it's called) back to needing insulin by feeding him that k/d food.
Even though that first time around when he was first diagnosed and he only took insulin for such a short while....the main thing I learned was low carb food is essential!!!
But when the vet told me her concerns with his kidneys and prescribed the k/d....I remember thinking at first would this food be ok for his diabetes, and she said it would be ok since he wasn't needing insulin, but I should have known better!!! That was exactly what I learned here. Low carbs was what was keeping him off the insulin! But I got all worried and side tracked about his kidneys and didn't even think to check carbs on the new food. I'm way disappointed in myself.
I know he could have went back to needing insulin at any time but this time was specifically due to my not thinking. So disappointing :(
Sorry just needed to get that off my shoulders and move on...i just feel bad for Theodore...there is no room for me to make mistakes like that. i really feel bad about it. But hopefully I can get him back to where he was. I hope so.

Pick whichever foods he likes. What often gets ckd cats is extreme weight loss.

Ted devoured the new food like no other! It had such a strong stinky smell to me  LOL but Teddy was the happiest :) and gobbled it all down so fast. Usually it takes awhile for him to transition to a new food...so that was easy! I might still give some FF to get in more calories, but I'm going to compare numbers and see what will work best. Or maybe other flavors have more calories, ill figure that out soon, i am just so glad to know about this food. Thanks so much for telling me about it! Definitely a blessing for Teddy!!!

It's the extensive filter option when you open the food chart. The top left box has a link connected to Extensive Filter option. Makes it really easy when looking at new brands :).

Shawna, glad Teddy likes his new fudz! He's looking good again, relatively quick too from those pink/red numbers too! Paws crossed he's headed back into R-land :bighug:.
