20151021_160851-1.jpg Myagi is on the right. He's 10 and just a few weeks into diabetes. Millie (Milagro on left) is 17 and healthy. They're both ferals I've been blessed with since birth. We've been getting so much support and advice and encouragement that i assumed we were signed up. Oops! Just reading threads for info not registered. So it's official were a part of this community! He's showing slow signs of improvement except the neuropathy. We're just so grateful you all are here for sugar babies and their folks. Hi and hugs to everyone! Heidi

    Hello and welcome!

I do not have actual experience with neuropathy but here is the link CLICK HERE to the very informative discussion about treatment options and care at home. If you scroll down to the post number 18 you'll find a video of amazing recovery from neuropathy.

Congrats on successful transitioning from dry to wet food!

Please post any of your health related question on the Main Health Forum - many experienced people will be able to help and the traffic there is heavier than in Intro forum. We also use sub-forums for specific insulin types - if your question is about dosing or injection timing it is best to post it over there as people who actually use those types of insulin visit frequently and will be happy to share their knowledge.

Welcome and best of luck to you and Myagi!

Hi Janet. Not yet. Working on getting some. Currently in financial crisis and complicated life circumstances. So we don't have it yet but are hopeful to have it soon. Perhaps you could answer this though. ... I've seen lots recommending it as almost always working (whether quickly or slowly) for the neuropathy but today i saw something mentioning a possible casual relation to ckd. Never saw that before. Scared me to think I'd give him something to help him move and walk and then end up hurting his kidneys. Is that a real concern? Thanks so much!

B12 doesn't cause ckd. Excess b12 is urinate out. Actually I GAVE b12 when I had a cat with ckd because he became boarderline anemic. It resolved the anemia completely in 4 weeks.

This is one that many here use when their cats have neuropathy.

Here's a slightly less expensive option

Is the Zobaline ok to give for anaemia in CKD cats or should it be the other type (cyano.... rather than Methyl....)

I just wanted to clarify that for my ckd cat (who is not a diabetic) I didn't give zobaline, I sprinkled 1 500 mcg capsule twice a day... Once in the morning and evening. So 1 mg total. (1000 mcg=1mg). Zobaline is 3mg per tablet.

So I shouldn't use Zobaline in a diabetic?

Yes you can. Zobaline is made for diabetic cats. I didn't use zobaline for my ckd cat but you could. Zobaline is a bit pricey, so I opted for the less expensive one for my ckd cat because he didn't need as much of the b12. Is your diabetic cat also ckd? Or do you have two cats?

If your diabetic cat is also ckd then I would go with the zobaline.

I have many cats lol. But yes, Rom is diabetic and has CKD. I'm in the UK so the methyl type B12 is impossible to get here so whatever I get will have to be shipped here.

Hi Sue, see this post for an example of where you can get methylcobalamin in the UK:
    Zobaline (UK)

However... Caution needs to be taken in kitties with CKD. Although B12 is normally harmless as it's excreted in the pee, this might not happen as efficiently if the kidneys are compromised and not functioning well (later stages of kidney disease).

'Tanya's' CKD website will have more info on this; and it may well be that you'll also get info on one of the CKD FB forums.
Edited to add: Hahaha! I see Janet's already given you the link.

    Hugs from Surrey!

Perhaps a lower dose or half a pill a day would be best.

    Sue
Is she getting sub q fluids? How advanced is the ckd?

It's stage 3 CKD and he doesn't get fluids at home (don't do that here). When first diagnosed and was having fluids at the vet he had a build up of fluid around his heart so they had to stop.

Now I'm confused. Tanya's site says B12 is important, and seeing as Rom has a mild, poorly regenerative anaemia, wouldn't it do him good? What would you dose?

Yes, it is important. But in kitties with late stage kidney disease caution needs to be taken because it is not so easy for it to be excreted through the kidneys. So it may be that a lower dose is necessary. ...It's a couple of years since I've used it in a CKD kitty. I would suggest you ask on the Tanya forum, or on another group with CKD experience.

There's a great group for ckd cats on Facebook called Cats with Chronic Renal Failure. Consider joining.

I have joined ages ago @JanetNJ and I posted the question, but just got the answer that Zobaline was for diabetic neuropathy!
