Hey, I recently took one of my cats in for an annual geriatric panel and got some bad news. The vet then took urine and again, bad news. I’m wondering if anyone else here has had a cat with CKD? You guys are the smartest cat owners, and because of you my cat is in remission from diabetes. I’m hoping I can halt or reverse this kidney issue now too.

One concern I have is the low carb food. I use the fancy feast pate (classics in America) and I’ve read that cats with CKD need less protein and more fibre. This worries me!

Not less protien until they are in late stages or you will have muscle wasting. Low phosphorus food is helpful however. If you can't find allow phosphorus /low carb food your cat likes them you can add a phosphorous binder (Aluminum hydroxide) to the fancy feast of his levels are too high. One food you can try is weruva bff cans. Low carb and phosphorus.

Hi this is a link to a site that has lots of very very good information about CKD

    http://www.felinecrf.org/how_bad_is_it.htm

I really don't know about fortekor but your kitty would benefit from a low carb low phosphorus diet as they mentioned earlier you could look into Dr.Lisa's list and find one that fits you and that your kitties like, I agree that giving him low protein in early stages is not a very good idea and they should not need extra fiber unless they have a constipation problem, try and have lots water for them to drink and you could also add water to their food if they'll accept it, in the beginning that would be a very good way of helping them get hydrated and help their kidneys
