    Hi,
If you read my first post, you can get the background information for Lila. ( basically she has not only diabetes but stage 3 CKD @ 15 years old )

Long story short, I have several issues.

I landed a part time job starting this Tuesday ( Nov 14th ) The hours will be anywhere between 10am and 9pm. Currently Lila's shot time is 630am and 630pm with a 2 hour fast before pre shot glucose reading.

I have kept Lila on a strict wet food diet as well as the 2 hour fast since being home all day. My problem is I will have to change the protocol quickly. I would need to change her shot time to around 9 or 915am/pm since I could be working as late as 9pm. ( and would not get home until around 915pm on some nights thus 'rounding' off to 9ish so as to hit both am and pm dose no matter what the work schedule is )

I have been reading up on adjusting shot times and it appears I can't do it quickly. Or at least in the time frame I have.

I need some advise! Mainly on how to adjust shot time but also how to handle the 2 hour fast for the evening shot. Mornings won't pose a problem since the earliest start for me would be 10am. ( I am going to have to figure out the feeding issue during the day when I'm not home as well ) For now, I will probably leave some dry food out as her glucose could drop and want her to have food nearby. She is also a finicky eater so I'm not comfortable feeding her as much wet food as I can in the a.m. ( btw she eats Royal Canin wet and dry food ) My original plan was to feed her Young Again 'carb' free dry food during the day but found out that having her high carb wet food around that will increase her hunger and she will eat more of the dry food than she should. Which wouldn't be good for her kidneys eating more protein.

I know the dry food is going to wreak havoc on her glucose levels and she has just started to feel better from a month ago. ( see spreadsheet ) Her Neuropathy has subsided quite a bit as well.

I'm a bit stressed as I know Lila might move backward on her progress, which I'm ok with as I can adjust her insulin and sort that out, but now that I shouldn't adjust her shot time so drastically and on short notice...

Am I missing something or over reacting? Of course if I had a set schedule at work it would be much easier...
Thanks much in advance, I hope all this makes sense as I have been 'googling' all day and a bit frazzled.

If you would rather keep with wet food, freeze a portion, put it in a timed feeder and feed mid day around naidar with that. Then have it turn to an empty space at 7pm so she doesn't have food two hours before the preshot test. You are using pzi which is an in and out insulin. Adjust the time a half hour at a time... then the morning of your new schedule just give the shot late so you'll be on the new schedule. It'l be fine.

    Thanks Janet.
    Just to be sure,
As far as the shot time adjustment, you are saying move the shot time a half hour each shot until Tuesday? I.e Tonight shoot at 7pm, tomorrow morning 730am, tomorrow night 8pm, etc?
As far as feeding, I will look into that. My only concern is leaving any wet food out in general.

yes, that's what I"m saying with the shot times. If you freeze the food it will be fine. there are also feeders that come with built in freezer pack spaces to keep the food fresh.

I've adjusted my vetsulin time up to an hour at a time. I'm pretty sure you can do the same with pzi if you need to as it is also an in and out insulin, but I'll let someone else more familiar with pzi to speak to that. so in that case tonight you could do

    sun night 7:15
    Mon morn 8:00
    Mon night: 8:45
    Tues morning 9:15

Thanks, I'll check back a bit later. Unless someone chimes in, I'll run w/ your schedule idea.

Thank you! This helps after spending the last couple of hours with a new research project :) And the local Petsmart has them in stock so it will be easy to try quickly.
