Hey everyone! I am new to the forum and new to home testing (why the heck did I wait so long???). The data in my spreadsheet is limited, but can someone please review?

Long story short... Monster was diagnosed in March 2017. He has been on 3 units of Vetsulin 2x per day since April. He has recently been switched to a small scoop of Purina DM dry food 2x per day ( from Hills CD urinary and metabolic) and is eating 1/2 a small can low carb wet food 2x per day. He is 22 lbs, so I am also trying to get his weight down.

Since I am typically not home during the day, I have been reluctant to shoot when his numbers are under 150. I go into work today at 3:30pm, so the plan is to get numbers throughout the day.

Based on reading others posts and his numbers this week, I’m thinking we may be headed down a really good path??? Like maybe off the juice???

Any thoughts or ideas are greatly appreciated. This forum is fantastic and I have certainly learned a lot!

    Thank you!!

Monster's ss looks good. Is there a reason he is eating dry food? His bg would come down more if you could switch him over to an all-wet diet; it would give him a greater chance of going OTJ.

Based on your data it looks like Monster may not require insulin since you switched to mostly low-carb canned food.
You were right not to give insulin this morning.

Thanks! I am still on dry food as I was trying to drop the carbs slowly. I will try only wet food on Sunday and see what his numbers look like.

Gotcha, good that you are transitioning slowly! Just remember to test frequently once the full transition has been made, there's a chance he won't need insulin and, if he does, it would probably be reduced even farther; you don't want him to drop below 50 if he is still getting insulin.

I don’t want to shock his system! Lol...
The +6 is 128. I was worried about Hypo, that’s why I have not been giving the shot if he is below 150. Unfortunately I don’t have any at home data from earlier in his diagnosis and treatment. Lesson learned. I’m working on getting copies of his blood work from the vet.

I wouldn't give more than 1 unit at these low numbers until you see what he goes down to.

So should I have DH shoot tonight? I have to leave soon to go to work. I should be home around 12:30am and can get a reading then.

If you are unsure you could always skip or just do 0.5

PM +5 was 95 with 1 unit given at 7pm by DH.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and thoughts. I’m so glad I joined the forum.

Don't forget to fill in what the preshot was in your ss so you know next time its that number what is safe to shoot.

You shoot 3 units at really low preshots. I sincerely think you are giving way too high a dose. Try only 1 unit at those shootable numbers. Now that you have switched (according to your notes) to low carb, that will men she will need even less insulin. Insulin needs change over time. 3 units is actually more than many cats ever need.

I don’t have that preshot number because I was at work. I had DH give 1 unit based on the AM +8 of 202.

Monster’s AMPS was 115 this morning!! I did not shoot.

I absolutely agree with your first two statements! 3 units is a lot and honestly it just didn’t make sense to shoot without testing!! And with me and DH working full time, we were playing with fire in terms of Monster, his insulin and the potential of hypo. I don’t want to play with that fire.

I was in the blind tunnel of this is what the vet said to do.
My goal is to get him into remission...and this forum has provided the knowledge and push I needed to take matters into my own hands. Janet- your knowledge and advice has been so appreciated!!

I’m trying to figure out his sliding dosage chart. Here is what I’m thinking:
    Under 125= 0 units
    125-150= 0.5 units
    150-200= 1.0 units
    Over 200= 1.5 units

He is now on the low carb wet food. I bought a variety on Thursday to see what ones he likes best. I am slowly decreasing the dry kibble and will probably get a small bag of the zero carb.

He definitely seems to be feeling better the past week. Even DH has noticed a difference. He is currently attacking my foot, so he is feeling good! Lol....
