I'm wondering how long everyone keeps thier cats insulin if stored I. The fridge. It's 28 days at room temperature but much longer if kept cold.
I've had some random high BGL and was wondering if it's insulin related.
Tribby is home tested and gets 1u 2 x daily depending on her levels. Mid day testing does show her bgl at normal.

    Thanks!

Hi, how long have you had your insulin, and how are you storing it?

Many folks here find they can use Caninsulin for longer than is stated on the product label. However, don't assume that to be the case. And when I used it there were times when the insulin lost potency earlier than expected. If the insulin is sparking out you would typically see higher BG's than usual, or a reduced duration (insulin not lasting so long in the kitty's system).
If you are seeing little 'white floaties' in the insulin then that would indicate that it needs replacing.
The 'About Caninsulin' section near to the top of this document gives more info about storing Caninsulin: Beginner's Guide to Caninsulin (Vetsulin)

There can be many other reasons for higher BGs though; including diet, infection, stress, tummy issues, furball, or even sometimes just 'a cat being a cat'....
Is Tribby eating, pooping and peeing OK?
Have there been any changes to her diet?

    Eliz

I got a new vial after 3 months.... The numbers on the new vials are the same so probably could use it 4 months.

She's actually pretty stable IBD wise. No vomitting and solid poops. Seems to be eating and drinking ok. It was 15 this am so I'm going to try to do a curve today to see when it goes up.
I'm keeping a close eye on her but I'm not thinking it's an infection.
The insulin looks normal. No separation or color change. Almost 2.5 months now so I think I'll place an order. It's less then half used and I cannot afford to waste it.
I'm going to sneak home midday and BGT.

    Thanks for the replies!
