    Hi Everyone,
    Argyle is my cat's name.
He just tested at 54 on a human meter. I have never had him test that low. He is not showing signs of hypoglycemia & just ate really well. I feed him Rad Cat raw & additional canned food. Just looking for some confirmation that I am handling this correctly. Going to re-test him about 20 more minutes to make sure his blood sugar is coming up. Typically he goes up fairly quickly but again he has never been this low. He was diagnosed with diabetes about 2 yrs ago & on Lantus since July of this year.

Thanks to all who read this,
    Maria

So just tested him & he is now at 83 so I think it will be ok. I will test him again in another 30 minutes. Would the suggestion be to just skip this dose of insulin?

    Gosh, good catch, Maria!

At what point in the cycle (how many hours post shot) did you get the 54? Or was that the pre-shot test?
If it was the pre-shot test had you done any other tests during that cycle? (Just wondering if it's possible that Argyl's blood glucose might have dropped even lower than that 54 at some point..?)

Could very well be that a dose reduction is in order (and that would certainly be the case if you're following the 'Start Low Go Slow' protocol rather than the 'Tight Regulation' protocol...)

What pre-shot numbers are you seeing typically? And what nadirs (lowest numbers of the cycle) are you seeing typically?

Have you made any changes recently, Maria? Increased dose? Reduced carb content of food?

    Eliz

Thank you Eliz & Janet for responding. I caught it during a pre-shot as I was giving him food. It was just at the 12 hr mark when he was due his Lantus. I have never seen it that low before. The lowest before that was in the 80 about a month ago. He is a bit all over still lately where I can't quite figure out what is happening with the numbers b/c sometimes when I give him a snack of his raw food his blood sugar stays in the low 100's & other times he seems to be spiking into the high 200's & low 300's. I thought he might be getting a bite or 2 of the food I give my other cats that I don't allow him to have but I am not certain. At this point his 14 day average is 234 & 235 for the last 30 days but the average is being a bit thrown off by some of the higher #'s he has had. I seem to be seeing a pattern as I am looking at it of a lower # like 134 during 1 pre-shot with a much higher # at the other shot but it isn't consistent if it is the am or pm dose. He is still doing much better than the high 400's & wild swings he had on the short acting insulin. Right now he just tested 386 since I didn't give insulin. I am going to have to test more often right now to see if I can figure out if he is going lower than I know. Any advice is appreciated.
    Thank you!
    Maria
