I think it will be easier than you think. I HATE needles (in me, like flu shots, getting blood taken, etc). I was sure that I wouldn't be able to do it. And I mean SURE.

But when it came down to it, it is just what I had to do. And it was no big deal. He barely flinched. Actually, he didn't flinch. At all. I had built it up to be way more than it was.

I hope/bet that is your experience tomorrow as well!

    And remember...breathe...

    Best,
    Sandi.

I'm not worried about doing the shot. It's measuring the dose and then the abject terror of a hypo! I'll try to remember to breath. He makes it easy to be calm...Myagi is very patient and loving!

    A cooperative patient sure helps!

It looks like you are a pro at testing, so that's another point in your favor. It's just a matter of keeping on top of it and you'll eventually get to where you can feel like, although it may happen, you'll catch a hypo in plenty of time to ward it off.

Practice drawing up water or some other liquid (don't inject, of course!). Just get the feel of the lubricant in the syringe and how to fine tune it without squirting the excess all over the ceiling. Been there, done that.

    You'll do just fine.

    Sandi.

One way of carefully getting rid of the excess insulin in the syringe is to turn the plunger slowly like a screw instead of just pushing on it. This whole injection thing will be a piece of cake in no time! ;):)

If you are already home testing, you are doing great already! For me, the insulin is a lot easier than the testing. You will get there! Keep in mind, practice makes perfect :)

That you're already testing (and really good at it by the looks of your spreadsheet!) already puts you ahead of the game! Once you get a feel for how the insulin affects Myagi and how low it brings him during the day, the fear of hypo will diminish. I won't say it will go away completely, I don't think that it does, but it won't be as scary. You got this!

Although I haven't had to give insulin yet, I was prepared to. I found that the Lantus.com web site has a diagram and instructions which looked really helpful in getting the proper amount from the vial.

    @Sandi & Whisper @Kris & Teasel @Chris & China @DavesMom @ZulusMom @Noah & me

Thanks all.❣ I'm going to try to get the feeder that Chris recommended the other day. But in the mean time I am nervous that his pm reading isn't yellow or accurate because I'm not around to pick up the food two hours before test. But if I'm doing slgs that should be ok in the beginning right? And again, thanks for all the encouragement and support

    Good luck!!

You are already testing very well so you'll be able to keep him safe, you'll be starting on a low dose following SLGS so take a big breath and anything you need just post here

We did it! Myagi was a rock star! Stopped eating and looked at me like "that's not a massage mom - What are you doing back there!?!" Then went back to eating. He's my good boy! Love him so much! So grateful to dcin!!! Updated his ss. Honestly though.. .5 is really hard to draw its so tiny. So I put. 6 on ss cause it was a bit more but less than 1u. I keep reading that as long as its consistent its ok. I think I can do that. I test again at +3. He ate well and bathed and napped and is eating again now. I love him!!!! 20171201_210238.jpg 20171201_210238.jpg 20171201_210238.jpg
