Do CVS/Rite Aid etc. have fish-flavored budesonide for kitties?

Anyone in the US know if it is possible to get fish-flavored budesonide for kitties from any of the big pharmacies such as CVS, Rite Aid etc? (with a prescription, of course). It seems to be cheaper to get it from a pharmacy rather than from the vet -- my vet uses a pharmacy that is not close to my place, and although they do ship I'd rather use a pharm that's close to me so I can pick it up myself. Thank you.

 

Not that I am aware of, especially for budesonide.
You can try contacting a major pet compounding pharmacy like Diamondback, Roadrunner, BCP or Wedgewood.
When I last looked for budesonide at a local pharmacy it was very expensive. You might get a local pharmacy to use a children's flavor like fruit but those may contain sugar and I doubt a cats would like them.

 

If you have a locally owned pharmacy, they might compound. We use compounded pepcid and our small locally owned pharmacy does it for me. Though they did mess up the first time, and made it for a human with sugar and all (I caught it before I left).... If you do go that route just make sure you're getting what you need

Edit- the animal version was actually cheaper than the human one by about $40.

 

I've had really good luck with the pet compounding pharmacies. The prices are sometimes much less expensive than for a human. They are experienced in making a lot of different flavors for animals and in a lot of different forms. I would have never gotten any meds in my cat without the special compounding they do in different sizes, etc.

Thank you much, Lillie! I'll stick to my pet pharm (well, or the pharm that makes meds for pets that our vet uses) then! Angel seems not to hate the fish flavored one they made him this time.

 

I had an awful time with metronidazole for my cat because it is so darn bitter and Wedgwood Pharmacy makes a 'tiny' tab that is coated and is so small my cat doesn't even realize he's swallowed anything. I don't know what I'd do without these types of pharmacies.

 

The standard dose of metronidazole is 1/4 of a 250 mg tablet. That fits nicely in a #3 gel cap

 

The Tiny Tab is about the size of a tic tac and goes down really easy. It was a God send for me and Leo because he never would swallow a gel cap.
