Its been worth it

A note for other newcomers. Getting over the 'hump' of shooting and testing (once unimaginable to me) was really worth it for us. Despite my imperfections in treatment, today I have a happy cat again. With his other problems making a long life very unlikely, I may not pursue the challenge of achieving remission (yet to be determined) but even in mostly 200 readings, my guy has turned around and is enjoying his life (right now), again. Many, many thanks to all the assistance here.

 

For me too, it seemed overwhelming at first. And I wasn’t very good at any of it. My friends on the fdmb were quick to respond, support and provide experience and it has made all the difference. When we started Penny could barely walk (neuropathy) and didn’t move much, couldn’t climb into the litter box. Today she is off insulin (for now) and healthier than ever before. I don’t think it would have happened with my vet alone. I never thought I’d figure out how to test and dose but I did it - thanks to the wonderful cat lovers on the fdmb. Hang in there.

 

It is indeed worth it. Many diabetic cats can live fairly long lives with proper treatment. In the Grief forum today, kitteh Chicken Little has gone to the bridge after 6 years as a loved and insulin dependent sweetie.

Leo has been getting insulin for 2.5 years now. I remember how scary it was at first. Leo has had other issues including Acromegaly and Small Cell Lymphoma. Dozens of people have helped me and Leo. This is the best forum ever.
