    Hi all ,
It’s been a long time since I have posted and figured I would give an update. Loki is now 23 still on Lantus and still eating Fancy Feast and Sheba. Had a scare about 1 month ago, when he injured his eye, not sure how but his right eye was totally black. And swollen, rushed him to the vet on a sat afternoon after they were closed. His vet was still there so he gave him 2types of steroids and fluids. He examined him for a possible stroke but no neurological signs of this. He has been on eye drops since . Now I see bright red behind the lens and some of his golden color. He goes tomorrow for a recheck on this. But my worry is his BG is totally off wack. He is on 2 1/2 units 2 times per day. His numbers go from 345 down to 30 in a blink of an eye. At his age we have decided not to do anything dramatic but if I can help him then I will. He has lost a ton of muscle mass also, his kidney are ok , some signs of kidney disease but not a lot. He is eating and drinking well, using the litter box and is still a cuddle bug. Just wanted to see if any had any advice and ask for good vibes for my sweet boy. Thanks .

Sending you lots of hugs and vines :bighug::bighug::bighug: he is impressive, congratulations !!

I don't have enough experience for advice but I have a civie that was loosing a lot of muscle mass and weight ( she has lots of issues ) and giving her 250mcg of B12 with her food AM and PM (500mcg total) helped her a lot and since it's just water soluble it won't hurt if it doesn't help

Our vet encourages her clients to post photos on her wall. One of my many photos has a caption that reads "What a very lucky 23 year old cat looks like". For some reason a lot of clients want to know more about this cat and what I meant by "lucky". I want to say something more meaningful to you than "Every day is a blessing" but I can't. At that age it's a mystery even to vets what's going on, or what's not going on. I think you're correct in not planning anything dramatic. If Loki is still eating, drinking and knows who you are just accept his whacky numbers and keep an eye on him. And when people say cats aren't meant to live that long there are now 3 of us who can say some cats are meant to be with you for that long. Leroy had good genes as well, his brother lived to 17. That's not meant to sound morbid, I think love helps. But you already knew that didn't you? Hi Loki!

You may want to try lowering his dose to 2 units to see if that stops his BG from dropping so low.

This is the one I use I give her half the pill in the morning with her food and the other half at night also mixed with her food, she doesn't mind and she is usually very picky so I guess is almost tasteless . For what I've read is better that is methylcobalamin, I saw some improvement about a week after she started taking them

The BG low of 30 is pretty low. I agree with Lisa to reduce the dose. You probably want a nadir in the 50-80 range.

Congratulations on having such a fine 23 year old fur-man to take care of. That is very impressive. Loki is very handsome.

I also think you should lower the dose a bit.
Loki is very lucky and I am glad he is doing pretty darn good :cat: Sending healing vines to wherever he needs them.
