    Hi guys,

It seemed like Merry was making great progress finally, getting blues, albeit highish blues, but still more blues than he's ever had, the past few days but yesterday he was all yellow & this morning at AMPS he's still yellow. I thought maybe it was the meat that I had mixed with TCFeline & put on top of his canned food (I think I first put it on his dinner on Dec 4 & on his bedtime snack that night & also on his breakfast on Dec 5th) but I'm pretty sure that premix is ok for Diabetic kitties and I only put a wee bit of that meat on top of his canned food but I didn't give him anymore of that after his breakfast yesterday just in case & hoped his BG would go back into blue last night but it didn't. Any ideas as to why his BG is increasing slowly again? So frustrating!

I'd guess the BG increase is because he's not getting yet the right insulin dose. But he's not too far away from it...that's another guess.

Keep increasing the dose per TR protocols. You are getting close to the right dose! Hang in there!! :bighug:

I was hoping he would stay in the blues since he had 3 good days like that (or go even lower) but no, back to yellows :( It's a bit scary going even higher with his insulin. As it is, 4u seems like a lot but obviously he still needs more for some reason. I know he's getting tired of all these BG checks, he's not as patient with it as he was (he's still pretty easy though & always gets a meaty treat afterward).

Neko was on TC Feline for quite a while - the Special version for kidney kitties. It didn't impact her BG at all.

I think Merry just isn't at the right dose yet. I would increase if you don't see greens today. Cats need as much insulin as they need. Neko got up to 8.75 units before she turned it around. It's possible Merry has some time of insulin resistance going on, such as glucose toxicity. That typically means you have to go a little higher in dose to get around the resistance, before they go down.

@Wendy&Neko When did you realize you needed to test Neko to see if she had a high dose condition? I'm wondering if Merry should start having some of those tests, or is it still too soon? I looked at Neko's spreadsheet & your last entry brought tears to my eyes, I'm sorry for your loss.

On this forum, we suggest 6 units as the point when we suggest testing acromegaly and IAA (insulin auto antibodies). There have been some kitties on less than 6 units that tested positive for acro (as one in four diabetics has it), but also some that got up to 5.5 units before turning it around.

Merry must have known I was concerned about his yellows because when I got home after work & checked his BG it was 7.2/130 :) I double checked it right away as well in case it wasn't a good reading & the second time it was 7.6 so it's a good reading! I'm wondering if maybe something he ate was bothering him after all since he came back down again. Merry is new to these blues & in the guidelines it says to hold for 8-10 cycles if they are new to numbers below 11/200 so I think I will hold for another cycle or two. Tonight will be his 7th cycle on 4u.

Very nice, Mr. Merry! Cats seem to save surprises like that for just when you start feeling a little defeated, he knows you needed the encouragement! :cat::bighug:

It's awesome what you are doing for him, by the way. Are your other cats taking to him better yet?

@Stacy & Asia It's been tough with Merry & the other kitties. He's very unpredictable & dominant. He's ok with Griffin & Simon, two others are terrified of him because he's gone after them & Oreo despises him (that's where the most work needs to be done). Merry often sneaks up to the others when they're on the bed or on the couch sleeping so they don't have any idea he's there & he'll stand up on his hind legs to see them & then start whacking them & hissing which scares the crap out of them because they were sleeping & not even bothering with him. I don't know why he does those types of things. I intervene when I see him heading towards them (I just steer him in a different direction) but sometimes I'm not right there. He's only with the others when I can supervise and that's also because I can't risk him getting into any of their food either. I'm fostering three kittens right now & he's actually pretty good with them. When I'm not home to supervise Merry has the foyer & the whole rec room which is a nice big area (fully furnished etc). My weights are down there so I'm down there in the evening with him & I'll watch TV down there too just to spend time with him.

Sounds like he's decided he needs to be the boss and your cats aren't having it, but the kittens are more amenable. How odd that the non hearing cat is the one doing the startling instead of being the startled one! o_O At least he's not letting is get him down, he sounds supremely confident (and a little naughty) for a cat with hearing loss, it could so easily have gone the other direction. Perhaps the kittens will teach him some manners in due time?
