I am new to post but have been following and reading alot. I have a diabetic cat Tigger diagnosed last december. Started on Prozinz 1 unit bid. When diagnosed his sugar was 480. Eventually went up to 5 units 2x daily and was also prescribed diabetic dry cat food. After finding this forum i decided to switch to fancy feast classic line back in September. Blood sugars went down. Able to communicate with his vet by email with curves and such and went down to 3 units bid. Then at the end of October one morning he ran a low. Thank god i was home and noticed and was able to notice and caught it before it was too low itcwas at 62. Lowered his prozinc to 2 units and was spot checking. Then allof a sudden his sugars were back up in the 300 and 400's. Well this past sunday he started to vomit then refused to eat. Took him to the vet monday. He has an infection and pancreatitis. Now in pain meds, nausea meds and amoxicillin and his glucose still running in the 400 to 500's. Doing better and eating now on meds and i/d foods from vet. So my question is or I guess concern is has anybody had problems with fancy feast classis line of foods?? I have read they are high in phosphorus?? Wondering if the food caused this?? Sorry for the long post!

Jones was diagnosed with pancreatitis and IBD. He used to eat the FF and it didn't seem to affect him or the pancreatitis. I did switch him off as one day he decided he didn't like it anymore. Very common with IBD kitties to be very picky.

Did they indicate where the infection was? Any infection can drive up the BG numbers. The ID food - is that the wet or dry? The dry is very high carb and the wet is pretty up there too which can drive the numbers up.

It is wet i/d chicken and stew. His glucose numbers don't seem to be changing even uping his units right now. They are not sure where the infection is thinking it is in his intestinal track he had some swelling in his xray. But normal kidney and liver function. Blood work indicated infection and lipase elevated and radiologist read the xray with inflammed pancreas indicating pancreatitis. I know that can throw his glucose off too. It is just so weird that about a month before this all happened i noticed his glucose numbers going up and up when they should of been getting better with the food change??? So wondering if the fancy feasy has something to do with all of this. But of course today he will only eat the fancy feast chicken. I originally started him on Sheba Pate and seitched to fancy feast cause I couldn't get cans of Sheba.

The wet ID is better than the dry, still up there in carbs. That said, for now, it maybe better to concentrate on Tigger eating than worrying about the carb level. You can always dose around that for now.

The timing, I think is coincidental in a sense, to the BG's going up. It may be that some of the ingredients irritated his tummy/intestines. The pancreas is part of the digestive system and it became inflamed. This would lead to pain and maybe infection? And those would drive up the numbers.

Whenever I think Jones is having a IBD/pancreatitis flare his numbers go up, he doesn't really eat, is very cuddly.

With IBD/IBS - the food becomes important in finding something that doesn't set off a flare. Jones is on the Rawz - turkey and chicken. He has done very well on it. In fact the only time he has flares now is if he gets into something he shouldn't. He also has the Weruva Fowl Ball. Both him and the KD kitty like that.

Thank you for the info. Just doing some research on phosphorus content on some of the wet foods and comparing!! I will have to try the food you have and see if he likes them. Chicken flavor is his favorite so hoping to find something.

I wish I knew the phosphorus content on the Rawz. I liked it because there was no gums! My KD really likes it too but the phosphorus content is important in her case. So I haven't tried it on her.

It is really hard right now. With his pancreatitis it seems like even increasing his units from 2.5 bid what he was on before sunday/monday to giving 3.5 today it isn't decreasing his glucose much. Im at work and my poor mom is my cat sitter this week for my sick baby. I have been checking morning and night and even with the increase i had the highest reading of a 509. He was diagnosed with a 480 last december. I will be home all weekend with him so hoping to get better readings. The vet did say with everything going on his glucose will be off. It just seems odd with the change from dry to wet food doing good and glucose going down and insulin units going down then all of a sudden 1 month ago noticed glucose readings going up then he gets sick.
