    Hi again,
Get on to checking his levels the meter i got is below, from pharmacy direct.

.... It takes a bit to get use to but its the only way to get know how the glusoce is going, otherwise you're shooting blind, its all very intersting!!.... I feed nala the Hills renal wet food, and fancy feast chicken liver... shes not a big eater, grazed her life away on biscuits so this has been a big change for her, and i still don;'t think she's eating enough.... But only give wet food. and no treats or other "duck food" :)

    http://www.pharmacydirect.co.nz/CareSens-N-Meter-Starter-Pack-(Meter- -10-Testing-Strips).html

Oh buy extra strips at the same time... you can get them on trademe... :) I'll find the link

after Nals diagnosis with CKD, her legs did go funny.. not a nice sight, But they have got alot better/totally after getting the glucose in check.

    19.5 what an age!!

Does that CareSensN do a .3 test then please? I couldn't make that out online at all. People in the pharmacies I tried looked at me as though I was mental.

Ty is on the Royal Canin renal wet and dry . But has depended on what the vets wanted to stock. Has been on the Hills too.

Ty was never a big eater either until 4 weeks ago then he turned into a hoover. Yesterday he tried to eat something on the side of the dishwasher door seal in the mistake it was a piece of dry kibble on the loose. Nightmare.

Is your girl doing OK all in all? She's a ginger by the look sof her. My Ty is a part burmese/siamese cross moggy and is a pale ginger.

The Blood meter I got is perfect... Ive become a professional ha!

Ah... its ok.... I figure shes got alot of problems....she can go with out it, but then it creeps higher and higher....
But once you can read what his levels are doing, you will feel so much more in control...

Its all very overwhelming, but this site is great, better than the vets really... ekk. well you can read up on so much.... But you need the meter. :) Plot a curve for a few days....
They started nala on 1 unit 2x a day... but she weighed 3.4kgs.... then when i gave her 1.5 she dropped low but bounced super high.... then we steadily decreased.. but you follow thier numbers...

yeah Nalas doing well... shell be 18 in jan.
She jumps around wakes me up all night... loves a cuddle. sleeps all day.. she's a sorrel abyssinian... :)

Better not to have the dry food.... for the diabetes sake... I know it sucks. but great if Ty will just eat the wet renal. doesn't matter which one but it means you have the best base food wise to start adjusting the insulin...

that meter was recommended by another person on here, and its perfect.. so just get it (With extra strips)and get on with testing!! :)
I talked to the chemist about strips when i had run super low.... they actually said they can sell you the lantus if you take a precription in and its about half the price. but we use so little it will take us forever to get there

It is scary in a way.
I was happy enough to inject the insulin & got onto that fine but the idea of self monitoring the BG is a bit daunting at the moment. I don't want to hack off the vets but I want the best for Ty so it has to be.
If the meter is the thing, I'll get onto that now + extra strips .

Hey and if you need I can do a vid to show you how i do i t.. Not sure if Ty will be as obliging as Nala, I get her when shes sleeping, so the ear is warm from being slept on (Blood flows freer).... and sometime you have to try and try again. but there are loads of vids on youtube...

Ooo yes . I can see that now in her with the ears and the eyes. Very beautiful indeedy.
Ty will eat just the wet renal . I can sprinkle a bit of dry but I think I need the B12 thing to help dampen his appetite. He was always a grazer and never an overeater . Nor interested in tidbits really & now he seems always desperate whilst there is you needing your girl to have more appetite.

Ty did have a period of quite some weight loss. We now think that was the kitten that appeared from nowhere and stayed ( long story) . So I would sneak up on him when he was asleep and lob a small bit of food in front of his nose and he would eat it because it was easy and there. Theory was if he felt a bit yuk because of the CKD then offering him food on waking wouldn't give the chance for the nausea to be there. I was forever bumping food before his nose until his weight came up and he was interested again. That was before the diabetes diagnosis.

I just looked at your spreadsheet, TY looks good! Blue is so much better than yellow and pink!!,and well done on all the wet food!
If i'm right it can take a while for their pancreas to relearn..... Theres that method that says if they hit a certain number they earn a decrease in dosage... did you read about the 2 different theories? Are you much happier now knowing :) Hows Ty doing? How did you go ear pricking :) Sorry I didn't come back but I knew i would get an email if you had sent something .

    Hey Nalasmum.
I'm still at it and I still don't really get it at all.
The ear pricking I can get a result mostly first time but Ty really doesn't like it & he seems to feel it so I think I am being too heavy handed.
    Here is today and tonight.
Thanks for asking. Hope all is well with you :) just took a quick look as screens after 9pm tend to give me headache and it's 1.30 am in the morning. lol You're greens
