    Hi!
So it actually may not be so bad!:) We were with the IM vet for over two hours. She is AWESOME!! So thorough and compassionate. The BW Texas AM (Maldigestion Panel) all normal.
She wanted to get a look at his colon but again Mr Ming was full of poop! She gave him a Pet Enema in lieu of that watery one that makes such a mess. She said if he doesn't "go" by mid day tomorrow he has to go back and get it. He went shortly after we got home;)
Since he has such a long history of constipation that made her question some things. She suspected and proved by xray that the colon wall no longer appeared to be thickened. She proposed that perhaps after three enemas that it could very well be edematous (swollen). The xray she took today appeared to confirm that but she wants Ming to get cleaned out and then schedule to have him back after 12 hours of fasting and she wants to do another ultra sound. So the bottom line this all may very well be just a really bad bout of constipation. She told me to weigh him once a week to keep an eye on his weight. Skip the pumpkin because it could be bulking up his stool. Increase the Miralax from 1/4 tsp 2x/day to 3/8 tsp and continue to increase until he passes stool daily that is soft not runny. She told me to discontinue the Metronidazole as he doesn't have diarrhea, he has the opposite. Stop Cerenia if he is eating and I agree he only stopped eating after the first enema on Wednesday last week. I'm due to call her tomorrow to report back if we got poop...thankfully we did!!

So here's the exciting part I'm thrilled to share with you all. She prescribed Cisapride. She told me where they order from and if Ming was ok with pilling. I told her that it was actually not too bad when I gave the Cerenia. I put the half pill of Cerenia in a little cream cheese and he loved it. So when we talked about Cisapride she said she was calling it in to a pharmacy called Wedgewood Pharmacy and they can make in a mini tab. I was like I can get it locally at Cross River but she explained the Wedgewood was more than a traditional compound pharmacy but more like a factory where they produced med's different than anywhere else. Cisapride can't be compounded into a liquid other than an oil.
So I looked this place up on line. It is really cool and a great option for anyone that needs meds compounded but with a twist. They are the only ones that can make the Cisapride in their patented "Tiny Tabs" See link here. That is what we are getting.

So this may not be as bad after all, paws crossed. I hope ,I hope and thank everyone for their vetty vines and well wishes. I hope this Wedgewood place helps someone. I'm starting to feel a little guilty for posting about Ming my non FD kitty. Its just everyone here knows so much more than FD and it helps me so much. Thank you!!!:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you!!!! I can't believe it. I thought for sure we'd be in a worse place and colonoscopy scheduled. Not even close, everything she "thought" is so far looking correct. I actually may go on vacation and enjoy it:woot:

Thanks Carla!! I thought of you. She asked how I give Ming his Miralax. I told her I was mixing it in with his food but I just tried mixing a little tiny bit of Chicken and Chicken broth baby food and he inhales it!! She started to say "oh you have to get Beechnut" and I cut her off and said of course its the only one that doesn't have anything added like onion, garlic. She was like "how do you know that". I just shrugged my shoulders. I couldn't say Carla and Furball:p
Thanks for the info on that. Instead of adding it to his food now I mix it in with a little of Beechnut and that way I know he eats it all and I don't have to watch when him and Buddy eat their FF and worry Buddy is going to get into his Miralax laced food:stop:

Sooooo happy to hear this news! You were due to catch a break and I'm so thankful that you did! Did she give any insight as to why all the constipation issues to begin with? Is it just a thing? Hope you're cuddled up with Ming right now. Happy, happy, happy dance! :bighug:

I can't give an "official" waiver re posting about a non FD cat, but I can tell you we have prayed and cheered for the recovery in several tough situations (go Spike!).

Constipation is such an issue for so many of us, I'm sure we can all continue to learn. My Rose takes both Cisipride and Ranitidine (compounded as sugar free liquids). I am interested to lean more about what you can get from Wedgewood.
So glad to hear more good news!

So glad to hear things are moving along (pun intended ) for Ming. We talk about poop here a lot so maybe we need to add a "poop forum" ? Just thinking ;)

Oh, I am so thrilled with the news! You must be so relieved...

Girlie has been taking Cisapride for some time now, though we stopped lately. We have it compounded at a special pharmacy here.
I'm really curious about what you wrote there, and I think I might call my pet compounding pharmacy to find out how they compound the Cisapride for Girlie. I'm LOUSY at giving pills, so many of Girlie's meds are compounded into a chicken-flavoured liquid: the phenobarbitone; the mirtazapine; and the cisapride (but that's apple flavoured - no idea why - and we have to keep that one in the fridge). I like the compounded liquids as it's easier to make small adjustments to her meds if needed; getting tiny doses of pills can be tricky: the pill cutter doesn't always do a clean job.

Anyway - I shower you and Ming and your vet with gold stars - such good news!

Just curious re: the enemas: when Girlie gets one, it's straight to the litterbox for a result - almost no time delay. I don't know if that's what Microlax does or if that's how Girlie reacts, but be prepared in case your next enema acts a little more quickly than you thought it would. That's why I'm so glad there's a mobile vet who'll come to the house to do it for me.

Keep us posted on your progress!

Here's an inspirational pic for Ming, just for fun:

    Hi Michelle,

I'm so glad Ming's doing better. That IM sounds great - you're so lucky to have found her!

Of course it's okay for you to post about a civvie here. You and Ming will always be part of our L&L Land family. I can't tell you how much help and support I got here with my civvies, Minka and Sasha, and Harvey before he became diabetic. This is the most caring, generous group of people I have ever encountered.

I've heard lots of good things about Wedgwood in the past. Nice to hear more.

Sending lots of good poo vines for Ming, and :bighug:s for you. Do keep us posted, please.

Thanks Carla! I was a tad nervous because Ming only pooped Tuesday and then nothing. I was stressing that I would have to bring him back yet again for an enema. I waited it out and kept increasing his Miralax dose (as directed). He started Cisapride Wednesday. Last night he pooped!!:) It wasn't a lot but we're making progress. I was starting to question if he could poop on his own:eek:. I think his poor colon has been through hell so its taking him a little longer. He's eating (although slightly less than usual), playing, cuddling, interacting with Buddy. So I'm starting to think we're heading in the right direction. I leave Thursday for vacation and I was praying he would go on his own and he did. I will have to keep increasing his Miralax though because he needs to go more often. I'm increasing 1/8th of teaspoon a day.

I can understand what you mean, Michelle, re: Ming's colon being stressed out and taking time to recover. I think I mentioned earlier that Girlie had to go under anesthesia for the vet to try to flush her out, she was so constipated. I think having that extreme a level of constipation for so long didn't do her any favours. Plus she's an older lady, which is a factor, I'm sure. Still, she's getting better - slowly! The Cisapride and the Miralax helped, as did the pumpkin. We're trying the SEB now, but I can't discern a difference with poo, although it does seem to be helping her poor tummy. And I'm going to try the egg yolk powder, too, as I'd rather use that to help with motility if I can. If not, we'll go back to the Cisapride. But initially, it was all hands on deck to get her to poo consistently. Only now can I look at trying some alternative things...

Please keep letting us know how Ming is! I'll be really curious to hear how Ming goes with the Cisapride and the Miralax. :bighug:
