I bought some earthbath Tooth and Gum wipes for cats and dogs, then got home and noticed they have peppermint oil - I've gotten mixed messages about whether it is safe or not

Here is a link with the ingredients - does anyone know if it is safe?
    Thanks

Well there’s no sugar in it and you’re only wiping the teeth not feeding it to them. I don’t see why not.

I would doubt it would be marketed as a pet product if it’s toxic. But if in doubt don’t use it.

Essential oils should not be used at all with cats because cats cannot process them properly and they then become an issue and can cause toxicity. Peppermint will smell nice but not sure if it will actually clean his teeth.

There's not a lot of regulation on these "natural products" so things like this can slip through.

It would be better to use a cat formulated flavoured tooth paste and use a finger brush or cotton swab to apply. These have enzymes designed to clean the teeth and are more effective.

It does say it’s for cats and dogs tho. But yes you’re probably right re the toothpaste.

I've been a pet groomer for over 15+ years so do have experience w cars grooming and teeth care.

"Natural Products" have no limits, guidelines or expectations especially in the states so there is no governing body saying That companies cannot put things in their products. It is usually after the fact when a recall occurs people are made aware of the problems. At the end of the day it is pet parents who make decisions for their pets and products used.
Maybe do some research to see if the ingredients are safe. It's a pain in the b&^/ but better safe then sorry. Cats can be so sensitive.

If there’s any doubt at all or any report that says not to give it then I would not use it.

My vet researched it - she said it would probably be okay as long as it is not ingested, but recommended other products without it
Wish I had kept the receipt so I could return it
