Lila seems to have a urine infection. Has spent several hours back and forth to litter tray and passed very small amounts of blood stained urine. Vet has given a Convenia antibiotic inj. We are to get a urine sample into vet tomorrow for full testing. We wondered about trying D Mannose, wondering if it will affect bgs. Has anyone had any problems using it with a diabetic cat?

Thank you that looks very informative will look at it fully later. At the moment Lila is still going in and out of litter tray very frequently so hope the antibiotic starts to work soon, she has also started drinking a lot in the last few hours, presume thats likely with a possible infection?

I see from Lila's spreadsheet that her BG seems to be running a good bit higher at the moment (presumably due to the infection) and that might be a possible factor driving the increased fluid intake. It's a good thing for her to drink more; it will help to flush out her system. (Increased urine glucose levels really don't help matters when infection is present.)

Yes it's been a difficult few weeks, we thought we were losing her at one stage. She has lost a lot of weight and has bowel problems too. She has improved a bit on b12 injections and hopefully once the urine infection is sorted we may see some improvement again. Good to hear from you again, thank you.

Mogs, it's so good to see you back on the forum!!! We have missed you! I hope you are well; you are always in my prayers. :bighug:❤️:bighug:

Ann, Squallie was on a treatment dose and then has been on a lower, maintenance dose of d-mannose for a long time, it has never affected his BG (and he is very sensitive to carbs). He had lots of idiopathic UTIs before he was on it, but he hasn't had a single one since he started taking it. :):):)

Lila is still going repeatedly to the litter tray passing a few drops each time. The vet doesn't seem to have heard of D Mannose and we were going to wait before giving it to her in case it affects the urine sample that we need to take in to vet. However if she continues like this I think we may need to give it a try. Do you think it would affect results at all?

I reviewed this all just last night. I am concerned Gizmo may have a kidney infection and am considering starting it myself.

I really don't know whether or not it would have any effect on the test results, in and of itself, but I don't really see why it would, either.

We decided it was important to try something as she was getting exhausted. So at 1.15 am we gave her 1/8 tsp dissolved in a little water then had to add a little cat soup to get her to take it. Lila then settled for best part of 4 hours. Lila then passed a good amount of urine. Symptoms are now ongoing again so have given her another dose. Will repeat every couple of hours I think till we get through this acute phase. What doses have you been using acute & maintenance?

For acute symptoms I gave him 1/4 tsp twice a day, for maintenance he gets 1/8 tsp twice daily.

I've been using D-mannose for Babu, he came positive for e-coli , and after using it the culture came clean, I gave him 1/8 tsp twice a day, for two weeks ( until a second culture was made and he came clean) . It had no effect on his BG, after that I've been keeping him with 1/8tsp once a day and so far so good.

I tried giving it with food but he didn't like it so I dissolve it in 2 ml of water and I give it to him with a syringe he doesn't mind getting water that way, it helps his water intake ,we are done fast and I'm sure he's getting his full dose with out chasing him all over the house to finish his food ( he's not a great eater)
