? How long can you leave wet food out before it needs to be refridged?

Mango hates wet food. When he gets hungry, he will eat, but I need to know how long it will be good not in the refridge.

The video link I pasted is only partially meant for a laugh. Pet food quality in some places is very poorly regulated so I wouldn't worry too much about a can sitting out for an hour or maybe more. A lot depends on if the can is sealed, a fly gets in there, someone jumps on the counter and licks the can etc. That's not very scientific but much to my wife's horror I use the 5 second rule all the time. The food we feed is not expensive so if in doubt just toss it.
    Cats deserve some dignity too.

Mango was a Katrina rescue? You did a good thing, you must be his hero! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Kudos to you Leslie for rescuing Mango in the rescue efforts for Hurricane Katrina.

We leave cat food out all day, in our air conditioned house. Usually if it is not eaten in 8 hours we toss it. We never leave food outside. Flies land on it and lay eggs. ...yeah, real nasty.

My girls are fed every 6 hours, and the leftovers from each meal stay out until the next meal (or until two hours before pre-shot test/meal). In a cool house, it could probably sit even longer and still be okay.

Yes, I used to be a wildlife rehabilitator when I lived in Ohio 10 years ago. My specialty was baby squirrels. I HATED cats because they would get squirrels and I would have to rehab them and then some would die. It is a long story on how I became a cat lover, but I found him on Pet Finder and drove 2 hours to get him. Ever since he has been my husband's and my life. He has actually survived 2 hurricanes! We live in Cape Coral Florida and we had to evacuate because of hurricane Irma! We were devastated when we found out he was diabetic. Now that I know what it is all about, we are doing great, if only he would eat wet food!!

Keep up the spirits. It is great that you have found a fur-kid soulmate. Feel free to post some new questions on the Health subforum. There are a lot of existing threads there with good information.

I finally burst through the door after an F3 tornado to find my two cats snoozing on the sofa "What's up". Somewhere I have a pic of them in silhouette watching a thunderstorm from a window. The wet food thing can be annoying but will come with time and patience.

That was 30 years and 20 cats ago. Straight past the back yard and didn't even take a shingle off the house, took the next right into a mobile home park.

Well after surviving two hurricanes I would be a little grumpy about giving up my favourite kibble too! :joyful:

Zulu eats just about everything but will occasionally put his nose up at pate if he's bored with it. Sprinkling a little bit of crushed up freeze-dried chicken liver treats usually does the trick.

It's like hurricane Irma, was coming straight towards us at a cat. 5, but made a turn. Everything was fine here. I cried thinking I would not have a house and at that time was sicker than a dog with 103 fever and went to a friends house with kids and I felt horrible.

This was in Edmonton, halfway to the North pole so not exactly tornado alley. The sky got dark, a hail storm, then sunshine. No one at work could believe what they were hearing on the news. The roof at Safeway collapsing under 5 feet of snow would be more believable.
Hope you and Mango have sunny days ahead. :)

I rented a tiny house on a tree farm about a 1/4 mile from this and like I said, not a scratch on the house. Sorry for any unpleasant memories.

I just looked it up, an F4. Sucked a locomotive off the tracks.
