Meow Mix - Simple Servings

Hello,

Meow mix simple servings are not listed on the amazing food chart. Just picked up a bunch as they looked like the right kind of thing for our diabetic cat and were on a BOGO. Does anyone know the carb content of these? Three of them are fish varieties in "sauce" which I think should be OK and the other is chicken and turkey in "gravy". Does anybody know how to figure out the carb content from the analysis?

weird meow mix's guaranteed analysis must be inaccurate for the nutrition calculator results says -1% wet carb & -6% dry carbs, that can't be right because when i went and checked the sauce types you mentioned, there is carb items listed in the ingredients..

Thanks for the link to the calculator. Yes, strange it is saying negative numbers on carbs, obviously something must be off. Looks like even a slight change in the stated moisture content changes the carb content BIG time. Thanks for your help!

 

You can’t accurately calculate from guaranteed analysis, you need As Fed values. If you can’t get those numbers from the company, look at the ingredients. Try to get foods that are free of grains, tapioca, potatoes and other carb sources.

A couple of the ingredients don't sound that great but the negative number on the calculator supposedly means they are pretty low carb foods: Currently on sale in the local publix for $0.37 per 2.7oz cup. Most of the premium ones I've been getting (fussie cat, bff etc.) run at least $1.00 for same amount.

1. Read the percentage of carbs in the food, the calories per 100g of food, and the calories per ounce of food, based on the numbers you entered. If you get a negative number for Carbohydrates, it’s because of the “minimum” and “maximum” ranges of the numbers you entered. It just means it’s a very low-carbohydrate food, but we can’t tell how low because of the rough percentages of nutrients provided on the label.

 

there's another part that tells you negative numbers can be from inaccurate guaranteed analysis numbers in food. in this case with meow mix, that is more than likely the reason for the negative carb numbers given by calculator for there is no way in heck a food with starch and peas has no carbs whatsoever in it. Am asking chewy what the actual carbs are in chicken turkey one, will let you know what it is when they answer.

 

Thanks for doing that! Yeah I saw some sort of starch and then some other ingredient that was also mentioned on the food chart that was a carb but considered a preferable one to starch.

 

they just got back with me and said "This product contains approximately 1.5% Carbohydrates" but, didn't say wether this was based on wet or dry matter carbs, more than likely wet though so i do believe that would make the dry matter carbs around 7%, good for our diabetic cat. think i will grab some for my cat to try if i find them on BOGO like you did.

 

Thanks for investigating that! The diabetic cat seems to love it as there is a lot of liquid in them, he dislikes anything pate related. Think they're normally about $0.75 but yeah the BOGO made them very affordable. Thanks again.
