    Hello All,
Rocky was given insulin and food at the following times and I'm not sure when to give insulin again:

5:15 a.m. BG 125 Fed Fancy Feast Full Can FF Alpha Trac Meter
    7:40 a.m. BG 158
    11:40 BG 266 1.5. units Novolin given
2:00 p.m. BG 61 given food full can FF
    3:18 p.m. BG 68 snack
    4:30 p.m. BG 158
    5:30 p.m. given food 1/2 can FF
    8:00 p.m. BG 332

do I give the insulin now or do I have to wait unill 11:40 since it is a 12 hour insulin. Must one always wait the full 12 hours. I know not to shoot below 250

Thank you for your help. I so confused and scared, I have to go back to work tomorrow and will not be here from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Insulin should be given on a 12/12 schedule. However, I see that this AM's dose was at 11:40 AM but you have to be at work for 7:30 AM tomorrow. Were you stalling this AM so BG would be high enough to shoot?

What time will you be able to give his dose tomorrow AM if you have to leave home early? That will affect what you can do tonight. It might be best to give only a small dose tonight (maybe 0.5 u?)and then try a reduced dose of 1 u tomorrow AM. The 1.5 u dose is too high based on the large drop down to 61 that you got today. That's awfully low if measured on an AT meter.

I agree, I was so upset when I saw the 61. I can give insulin at 7 a.m right before I leave. So you suggest , I should wait until 11:40 give .5 units?

You could wait until 10 or 10:30 PM to give 0.5 u. It's a much smaller dose than this AM's so it shouldn't be a problem being less than 12 hours until the AM dose tomorrow. Definitely reduce tomorrow's dose to 1 u and stay there for a few days while you gather BG data. BTW - it would be very helpful if you put all those BG numbers on your spreadsheet. We'll want to look at it any time you need help. :)

A million and one thanks for your help. I will follow your suggestion and put in all the numbers I have thus far tomorrow. Marje just put up the SS for me, I was having issues attempting to do it myself.

    Hello Kris,

I put the numbers in Rocky's SS that I have gathered thus far and took your suggestion about cutting dosage to 1 u a.m. and 1 u p.m. Again, I appreciate your support. As advised, I will stay with this dosage for a few days? How often do you suggest I test. I work from 7:30-4 M-F so until the weekend I will not be able to test mid day. My daughter helped some yesterday and today, but she is going back to school.

    Hi Karen,
When I click on your SS all I see is a blank chart - no numbers entered by you. Not sure what's going on. Was your daughter able to get a BG near mid day today? If so what was it?

If you can get a 'before bed' test on each PM cycle (a few hours after the PM dose was administered) it would be helpful. While it may not give you the nadir it will give you some idea of where the evening cycles start heading (and perhaps catch any big early drops so you'll know whether you might need to take action then and there (e.g. feed a snack or mini meal) or maybe set an alarm to wake you to do another test later in the cycle for safety.
