Weak, with in-appetence. Not dehydrated, and drinking water. Sneezing and coughing last night with eye watering. Started her on Doycycline and my last Ondansetron. Gave her 1cc dexamethasone w/.5 cc B12, in case this is another pancreatitis attack. So, antibiotics for the complications of Herpes, Dexamethasone for inflammation of pancreas, Ondansetron for nausea, and B12 for general health. Retested her at 1.5, because without food I feared her BG might dive, but she's steady at 317BG. She apparently tried to eat, but threw up her food.

Need to pick up Cerenea and baby food, but we have ice on the roads, so waiting for the sun to melt things and temps rise above freezing - should be early afternoon.

I need to test her for ketones, but she's not yet peed. Going back to the bedroom now t9o watch her for peeing.

    Any suggestions?

Now she's dehydrated, so I gave her .75ml lactated ringers. Bumping this up to get some help from our experts

Don't have any suggestions for you, but I hope some others do. This is very sudden? I hope TiTi is feeling better, have you put a call in to your vet just to get their thoughts? :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am picking up some Cerenea from them when the ice melts enough to hit the road. I rarely am able to speak to the vet directly anymore - my old vet moved back to her home town, so it's a different situation. I'm getting ready to call them now.

TiTi is pretty weak. No peeing yet, so I can't measure for ketones.

I hope TiTi will be okay. Is it already the 4th where you are?

    Kathy --

How suddenly did symptoms appear? I'm going to make an assumption here that you've seen this before since you have a bunch of meds in the house. I doubt that sneezing, coughing, and runny eyes are related to pancreatitis unless you're seeing additional symptoms. I don't know that giving a steroid (dexamethasone) is such a great idea if this is an upper respiratory infection and it's not indicated for herpes. You might want to see if putting TiTi in a steamy bathroom helps with the sneezing. It also may be that the poor appetite is happening because her nose is stuffy and she can't smell her food. Steam may help.

I have to agree with Sienne. Dexamethasone is a pretty powerful steroid. In fact, one shot of it can put a cat into transient diabetes (had that happen to one of my kitties and I know it’s not uncommon). For TiTi, it could potentially bump her BG way up.

Sounds like she might have two things going on: potential URI or herpes acting up and maybe pancreatitis. The cerenia...if you can get it, ondansetron, and fluids can help with the pancreatitis if that’s what it is. Is it possible to get her to the vet and they can do a cysto and check her urine ketones?

I forgot to mention that she's gone about 38 hours without a bowl movement. But that has never done this to her before. But it probably makes her feel worse. Herpes is in the house and she does have the symptoms, so I started her on doxycycline, which has, in the past, knocked out the bacterial complications.
Yes it was a sudden change, although I should have realized something was up when she coughed so much last night. I wish I had, I could have caught that part of it earlier. She's no longer sneezing. I think her appetite went due to the pancreatic attack. She's quite prone to them. According to her feeding tray (it has 5 separate timed sections), she ate all night. So, up to 5am she was eating normally. By 7:30 am, she had lost her appetite, and was weak and sickly. I'm picking up Cerenea as soon as the sun melts the ice.
She flunked her dehydration test at 9am, so I gave her 75mls lactated ringers.

I know her BG will rise, but in acute pancreatic attacks, which this looks like - same symptoms - dexamethasone has helped a lot. I sure hope I did the right thing.

As to the vet, I've lost my regular vet, who often let me run a tab. Not so much with this new vet. I am not sure the new vet wil see her on the cuff.

They're working - she just ate 2 tbsp. of A&D. It has more fat than I'd like to see, what with pancreatitis suspected, but wow she tucked into it, and now happily lapping up water.
What frightened me so much was the loss of appetite. Never happens with TiTi unless she's really sick.
Right now, she's 199@+5. Not bad considering the steroid.

Got the Cerenea, and TiTI's still eating well. Gone thru 2/3 of the A&D can. She's still weak, but rallying a little. Came onto my chest and purred like mad, while angling up her chin for scratching. I'm keeping a close eye on her. This has been scary.

Keep in mind that steroids can stimulate appetite, as well.

Yes, I know. I hope it carries over into a true healing. She's on Cerenea now, so if she follows her pattern of responding to antibiotics and cerenea and the steroid, she should slowly improve. God, I hope so!
