    Hello all-

Just was curious if anybody here has used NutriScan and what the results where and if it is worth the cost. I've been told by 2 different vets that food allergy/intolerance testing is very inconclusive.

    Thanks for any insight!

This is correct. A specialist told me that there may be no correlation whatsoever between the test results and what the test subject will or won't react to in the real world. I've had food allergy/sensitivity tests done for both Saoirse and my civvie, Lúnasa. I got the tests done (IIRC by IDEXX, not Nutriscan) because both of my girls had significant GI issues (chronic pancreatitis/suspected IBD in Saoirse's case, and Lúnasa had undiagnosed hyperthyroidism at the time the test was performed).

I know from the litter box that Lúnasa's intolerant of beef and when I got the test results back for her they did show she had a marked sensitivity to beef. I know she's also sensitive to duck but the test did not flag this as a problem.

Saoirse's results were: Egg (IGE 3) Duck, Lamb, Beef (IGE 1) Soya Bean (IGE 1) Cow's Milk (IGG 2). Saoirse was definitely intolerant of duck, beef and soy (worsened her pancreatitis symptoms and/or caused loose stools).

While they're not definitive, I'm glad I got the tests done - if only to find out about potential triggers.

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure turkey is the main one, but would love to know what else. He used to vomit, then it changed to licking himself bald, to severe ear infections, to now GI issues and pancreatitis. He seems to love fish, but I worry that he might be sensitive to that also. The test is $300. While expensive, might be a bargain in the long run if I received conclusive information...

It is a bit of a punt because there's no guarantee of a conclusive correlation.

I did not have that one done, but one done that is no longer available through groupon. That said, is it a 100% correct...no. But it did point out a few things that he would intolerant to. I stopped those (tuna) and I have found less issues with his IBD. I try to keep to his ok and tolerant zones.

In the end, I viewed it as a compass telling me a direction to try. Like @Critter Mom the proof is in the litter box.
