So Mogee gave me his first real "hypo" reading this morning.

    He was 51 @ +4 and he is now 48 @ +4.5.

I am not too concerned as I have gave some higher carb dry food (that HORRIBLE prescription Glycobalance) and can monitor his closely. He usually peaks at about +4 or +5, so we are almost through this.

My question is this: Based on protocol, do I now reduce his dose, since he technically (based on BG) hypoed?

It is just so weird to me as he is usually in the mid 100's @ +4. Why the sudden change? I would not have caught it, as he is displaying NO symptoms, if I didn't test @ +4 on days I am home.

Can someone please look at my spreadsheet and give me advice as to what to do with his dose?

    Thanks everyone!!

Are you doing tight regulation? I was told if you're doing tight regulation to drop the dose by .25 but let's wait and see who else Chimes in I'm very new to this also

I did just remember, which I didn't take into account...

I started a NEW bottle of Prozonc yesterday morning. Wonder if his last bottle wasn't as strong?

Not necessarily tight regulation, but I try and dose him to get him down around 100 at nadir and keep him below 280 PS as much as possible. We all know how that works.

My first vet was not the smartest and Mogee would probably be on 8 or 9 units, twice a day. And would still be on the HORRIBLE Glycobalance if I was still listening to him.

I switched Mogee's food to FF myself, reduced his dose in half overnight, and have been doing this dance pretty much by myself since October. I do have a vet here who is very helpful now, but she lets me do as I please with Mogee and I check in regularly.

There isn’t really a tight regulation protocol for ProZinc. I suggest a small decrease to 3.25 u (eyeballed) at next dose time. Sounds like you handled that lime green just fine. Put a notch on your FD belt! :)

I believe that TR itself is just used for Lantus, ProZinc is dosed somewhat differently. No experience in it, myself, so I'll defer to those that do have it.

Good point! It certainly makes the timing of the change in numbers very suspicious!

It's also just possible that his insulin needs are decreasing, either because his pancreas is doing better, or he's more used to the new food, or he is changing the amount of exercise he's getting, or a million other things. One of the reasons we advocate so strongly for home testing is that insulin needs can and do change all the time, sometimes for no apparent reason. Good job catching this low!

    51 @ +4
    48 @ +4.5
    47 @ +4.75
    60 @ +5

Knowing Mogee how I know him, I believe we are out of the woods now. I know these numbers are all about the same but I feel he will level out now or go up. I will just watch him closely now for the next couple of hours. Glad I didn't go overboard and use syrup, etc.

Thanks for all the advice. I will, depending on how low his PS is, most likely give the 3.25 units, maybe only 3.

Hopefully this is just his pancreas saying hello!

A new bottle of ProZinc absolutely makes a difference!!! I have seen differences each time I start a new one.

Makes sense then. Mogee went into the green for the first time in the AM yesterday. And now this today. He had been on 3.5 units for over a week. I'm going to try and do the 3.25 tonight, depending on his PS, but hate eyeing it. I do have the syringes with the half unit markings but the quarter markings is even tougher to eye with them. I just didn't think he was going low enough at only 3 units. Should have tried the 3.25 first before skipping to 3.5, based on protocol. Live and learn.

120 @ +7. Not bad at all, especially since I gave him a handful of the Glycobalance @ +4. Figured he'd be a bit higher by now.
