i know human meters are ok, but are there exceptions?

In touch with somebody whose supposedly diabetic kitty systematically reads 90 on the accu-chek, and suspecting the meter might not be cat-compatible. She tested it on herself after a soft drink and got 120.

    Thoughts?

Seems reasonable for the after-soft-drink number for a non-diabetic human. I don't think that there are any human meters that work on such different principles that you'd expect "cat" numbers to be wildly off compared to other human meters.

90 is pretty solidly in the "normal" range for a cat, hope the caregiver didn't give a shot after that without prior data on the cat's response...

I used accucheck Aviva. This is interesting reading but scroll down half way through the article to Table 4. Gives a comparison of several meters and their accuracy. The reason I had an issue changing meter is that there seems to be a 40% difference between accucheck and freestyle. Freestyle tends to read low and accucheck high. Both of which is allowed.

Eg on accucheck I get 20.4 and on freestyle I get 13.6. Allowing for the allowed variance of + or - 20% - adding 20% to the freestyle gives you 16.32. Subtracting 20% from the accucheck gives you 16.32. Same. Both within allowable variation.
