Ate ALL overnight fudz (Soulistic) - I can't believe it. So excited. First cycle with NO a/d. He got his first BP meds yesterday. Started adding the binder a couple of days ago - got to go back and look at the posts and notes and put it on the SS. He has been eating 3/4 to a whole potassa-chew after ever shot (or sometime during the cycle, I have just been leaving them in the treat bowl).

The boy poo'ed 3x yesterday! Good water intake at his bowls as well as in his food.

Only concern is I need Cerenia. I emailed the vets asking if I could come pick up a box until the ones I order come in. I sure wish they would prescribe more than 1 box at a time so I could order cheaper and have it on hand.

Hope everyone has a great Friday.

Great news Lizzie! Sounds like Gizmo is doing better! How long does it take to for the BP meds to help?

I can relate to the vets giving a larger amount of meds. They do have to make their cut now don't they??

I'm glad Gizmo is eating for you. I hope he keeps it up. Hopefully you can get the cerenia soon. How frustrating the vet won't work with you on that.

I don't know. I am planning on doing a followup visit next Monday and they will check the BP again then.

I won't purchase through them if at all possible. I get an rx and get it filled at Wal-Mart or online. I got his BP meds at the grocery store last night. $3.17 for 24 days (8 pills-1/4/day).

I do the same if it is a human drug. What they charged me for 3 weeks of methamazole for Forrest was the same as what I got a 6 month supply from Costco. I understand that Costco and Walmart are the best prices for most drugs. I call both and compare. You do not have to be a Costco member to use their Pharmacy.

I still think these Vets RX such a little amount so that you have to go back in for an exam to get more.

It was $47.xx for 4-24mg pills through the vets. Diamondback is about the same price as the vets (+shipping). 1800petmeds is $25.xx but I must mail in the rx (won't take a scan or picture). I called 2 compounding pharmacies yesterday trying to get it compounded and couldn't get it done. One vet compounding pharmacy doesn't carry Cerenia the other (human) I need to supply the pills and they will compound it into liquid for $50  and that doesn't solve the issue of the fact I don't have the meds. :banghead:

I do too. My other vet didn't do that. I just called and said I needed to pick some up and could run up at lunch and pick it up.

There is a Costco near by but not convenint enough to make the savings worth the hassle.

Yay for eating and pooing! That's awful what the vet is doing to you on the cerenia. At least the amlodipine is cheap.

Yay on gizmo’s appetite and poopies. Good signs to be sure.

When Sootie was prescribed cerenia (pills) by the IM, I had to drive a good hour and a half each way to get refill there bc they wouldn’t mail me a script and my reg vet didn’t have and wouldn’t rx cerenia pills. But I could get the injectable from reg vet. Go figure. ;)

Great news on the eating! That must be such a relief! :cat:

A lot of states have adopted laws regarding vets refusing to give you a prescription to fill elsewhere. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Texas is one of them. :(

    https://www.avma.org/Advocacy/StateAndLocal/Pages/veterinary-prescription-orders.aspx

Another option is to try to order it online and have the company contact your vet to approve for filling, they may refuse to authorize, but worth a shot?

    LOL. :banghead::banghead:

He ate about 3/4 of this +2.5 snack (left Soulistic (LC/LP). Hoping for better numbers tonight. My new, revised goal is high greens and blues. It just seems to me that every time I almost get him regulated and into almost all greens - he has a severe panc flare (not sure if there is a connection there or it just happens to be the way it happens). I am going to slow down and just let it be for a while (once I get him down - hoping the LC food will bring him back down). I have to pick my battles right now and I don't want his QOL to be miserable and want to keep him as safe as possible without making his life all about his diseases.

Interesting - I understand that, especially for small communities with only 1-2 vets. At least here I can walk away and find another vet if they refuse to do so (and will). I am about sick of the "holier than thou" attitude. Yes, I understand you have "DVM" after your name and you may be good at the clinical side, but there is still the human side and the feline side - those are as, if not MORE, important.

    I miss Dr. Pratt. :arghh:

ETA - oh, and I didn't ask per se - I just said I need an RX so I can order it - lol. I really didn't give them the opportunity to force me to purchase from them. I did tell them that I have to save $$ anywhere I can so I can treat Gizmo to the best of my ability. They didn't put up a fight.

Thank you. That was just last week when we had a bit of a warm up and the sun was out. I opened up the window and blinds to get fresh air into the house and he walked over and was smelling the fresh air and enjoying the sunshine. He is so spoiled - lol, but, IMO - he deserves it. :)

Is this the Royal Canin that your vet sold you to put weight back on Gizmo? I know you bought something else that you were feeding him, but I wasn't sure what brand it was. Maggie needs to put on weight, so I'm looking for help. Thanks!

    @Bronx's dad
I contacted Nutramax Laboratories re: the Cosequin Joint Heath Supplement for Cats. The product does not contain any phosphorus. I am not a scientist and barely passed HS chemistry but they extract the good stuff out of the shellfish and that their lab tests show -0- phos in the end product (paraphrasing).

They were very helpful and friendly. Their number is (888) 886-6442 and you can talk with technical/lab people if you call.

No, not that product. And it wasn't for weight gain - it was for force feeding (very smooth and easily made soupy).

    Royal Canin Recovery
    Hills Prescription a/d

Both are higher carb than you would want unless you have to feed.

Have you tried Dave's or Newmans? Both are higher calorie but still LC/LP

Thanks for the nutritional info! I've tried Dave's before, but not recently, and she was OK with it. Never tried Newman's Own though. Will have to get by the special pet store and look for those. Thanks!

I think you can find Newmans at Randalls if you have one. I just order from Chewy.

Gizmo likes the Dave's better than the Newman's.

Don't think we have Randalls. You know this is Oklahoma, not Texas! ;) :p
I hate to buy a whole case from Chewy even though they are very generous on their return policy. IDK why, but I feel guilty asking for a return even though it is SOP for them. Wish they sold single cans, but I can understand what a nightmare that would be for them.

Or even 1/2 cases. I never return food. I stash it and try it again at a later date unless it proves to be too high carbs - then it is donated to a no-kill shelter. They eat well on my $$ but it is my way of supporting them :cat:.

We don't have a Randalls close to us either. I think the closest one is about 40 miles away (over an hour drive with traffic). I have to determine how much my time is worth when it comes to running around trying to find food vs. house work and sleep o_O:smuggrin:

Yeah, I guess there's no reason to request a return, just donate without the middle man. I've requested a return twice and both times Chewy said to keep it and donate it to a shelter, which I did.

I mixed radcat & Soulistic about 50/50 and he was ok with the juice. Went back once and ate a tiny bit more but wasn't crazy for it. I put down regular Soulistic for the rest of this cycle. It may have been too soon for his tummy. We will try it again.
