    Hello everyone, I am back,

Meet Love, the newest addition to our family. She is from Canada and was transported to Pennsylvania today with DCINs help which I will get to in a minute.

Love was found in a dumpster in -30 degrees C December 20th in Canada. The woman who found her took her in and fostered her. January 23 she was dx with diabetes and food change was started. I saw a post by DCIN that she was a rescue only and asked our own @Chris & China what that meant. After a few discussions I said I would adopt her. In posts with the foster mom whose daughter named her Love aka Olive, I asked if she knew what Love's glucose was and how long ago. It was 24.3 or 437 on January 23rd according to the record it was the only glucose done and by which means it does not say. Cathy (volunteer from One Last Chance Rescue) got a quick course in FD who in turn showed foster Mom Laurie how to shoot and test. Although only a few tests got done, insulin was started low at 0.5 units until she could get here. Being that Laurie is expecting a baby boy any day now it was a lot for her to take on but she did so without question. Love has only received insulin for about a week now and some of those doses were not consistent. Of course today being travel day she didn't have any. I tested at 7 pm (I will get the ss up as soon as I figure out how, new IMAC so I'm learning) was 465. I am just realizing that I now have to set an alarm clock every morning and wondering why am I doing this again. Well everyone needs Love and Love needs us. I really don't think she is the 9 lbs stated by vet. There is no fat on her and with the long fur I couldn't even get a scruff or find a spot on the flank. The next few days we will all be settling in and getting the routine down. Right now she is just growling and hissing anytime someone moves and that is not sitting well with Tux or PJ. I so hope that will change. Love does not like being left alone at all. She has a very strange weak hoarse cry that sounds just like Smokey's cry.

I do not know if all these people are here on the board but I would like to thank all who helped get her to me.

@Chris & China who contacted the rescue, gave crash course on FD to @Cathy Valenti (One Last Chance Rescue) who in turn taught foster mom @Laurie Le Huquet, @Phoebe basso (DCIN Transport), @Eva Konjic McDowell (DCIN), @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) (transporter) Love thanks you for the toy, @Sarah Huneau (transporter), @Kat Walsh (transporter), @milfordcollector (Cindy Gross, transporter) The shirt is so cute, I will get a pic when the diarrhea stops.

You all worked quickly and gave your time to get her to me. I hope to live up to your faith in me. I really hope to get her feeling better quickly however, I must say it will not be easy.

We are all SO happy that you have found Love again, Paula!!!

I'm so happy to have helped get you two together as well as helping crosspost to find transporters so we could get her safely to you!!

And between all of us, I think we've taught Kathy and Laurie a lot about treating any future diabetic kitties they may end up getting into rescue, so that's a great thing too!!

Looking forward to hearing about your new journey.....Filled with Love!!

She is beautiful and one lucky little girl to find her forever home with you and your gang. Sending lots of good wishes for you all to settle in nicely. For whatever it's worth, each time I got a new cat, I put him in a dog crate and in the middle of the most populated room in our house so he was safe and the other animals could come and sniff and say hi and get acquainted. I did this for about 4-6 days and each day allowed the new kitty out of the crate for supervised times and each day that time got a little longer. It seemed to really help for everyone to acquaint.

Until then, you are right, all we need is Love.......

Well, I loves you for being a complete and utter love. Love is absolutely in the right place.
Wish I could have helped Love get to her new home but it would have been quite some detour.

..and this lot in here. They are a right bunch of loves too. :bighug:

Oh Paula, this made me cry. How can people be so heartless? I would like to add my thanks to the foster mom who rescued her :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug: and to all the others that helped get her to you! Hi Paula and Love,
We are so glad to hear that Love is home, and I know that she will be fine as soon as she has time to get adjusted to what will be a huge change (and a happy one) in her life. Paula, thank you for opening your heart and your home to this beautiful kitty. She was such a good traveler on our leg of the trip. @Linda and Bear Man was my navigator and also took a good photo of Love in her travel carrier. IMG_2233.jpg

I hope that things will smooth out for you, Love, and your kitties. Big adjustment for all concerned. When you figure that she is new to insulin, new to good food, new to traveling in a transport with many stops and different people, and new to your home, it is not surprising that she has her defense mechanisms going. May today be a good day!

Rusty has long hair and I found out early that the only easy way to shoot his insulin was in the scruff, just below the neck. I pull up some of that long hair and the "tent" and skin miraculously appear. It is so easy. Forget the shoulder or flank: that's impossible. Rusty is now a skinny senior citizen, so the hair pull-up on the scruff is even more crucial in order to avoid pain.

Welcome, Love! You are one lucky kitty!

Your right, she sort of looks like Doodles. Love's feet are big, even though she is long hair it's scraggly, thin and fly away hair. You can still tell how thin she really is.

Thank you so very much for helping with the transport. It must have been nice to have Linda along. Did you make the parade? Love started rolling on the pillow toy you gave her as soon as I gave it to her. It certainly is a big change for her, even the air she breathes is different.

In my own area, we took the scenic route. There was a line of trucks and the exit sign was missing, so in the rain I missed the turn off. An extra 1/2 hr to our trip.

Wow, are you kidding me? I read your profile first when you said this would be a long one. That would be enough for some people but other people just keep on chuggin' so I'm sending your home some faith and love. BTW, where Love came from is no surprise. Ontario has some of the weakest animal cruelty laws on Earth, roadside zoos are completely legal here as is ear cropping. @Kris & Teasel Did you see the news last week about the dog that got the "at home amateur hour" ear cropping? This is what you saved Love from. And as usual, thank you @Chris & China for making the world better for all of us.

You are to funny. @Chris & China mentioned this song early in the planning phase. It became Love's theme song. I mentioned to her it was one of the few Beatles songs I like. I never particularly cared for the Beatles, since she mentioned it I couldn't get this song out of my head.
