    Hi all-

I have about a 3rd of a bottle of Lantus, and should be ordering a new one. I was going to order for Marks Marine for the 1st time, but the lady who works there said that they dont recommend shipping under 38 or over 80 degrees. I live in MN so a constant above 38 could be a month or 2 away. Anybody in colder states have any ideas on this? Will it freeze? what are the chances?

    Thanks

Check your local forecast and pick a time when it's going to be above freezing for several days and have them ship it then.

Freezing will ruin it, so it is important to order in the fall/spring (when you can) so you have plenty during the cold of winter and heat of summer.

Ok thanks. My vet now won't even let me order from them. So, I guess there goes that idea. Sure wish they could do overnight shipping :)

Have your vet write you a script....tell him you're going to do some shopping around for pricing. He doesn't need to know where you're buying from

I'm actually in the process of switching vets, so I'll just have to ask the new one. Just couldn't believe that she's telling me who I can or can't buy from. She knew I was going to get my next vial from them. Oh well. Just another reason why I am switching.

Minnesota is one of the states that does not have a requirement that the vet give the client a script.

Ugh. Of course my luck! I wonder if I can get a script from my other vet and just drive to Canada, and buy some at any pharmacy there.

A prescription is not needed in Canada to buy Lantus if it is for a cat. I don't know if Manitoba has special laws, but in Ontario, it's not a problem.

Interesting. Do you have any idea on pricing? Is it inline with Marks pricing?

Roughly $120 CDN for a pack of 5 pen vials - you wouldn't be paying for shipping. You would, however, be paying for gas, etc.

Hmm. I'm using the vial currently. $300. Right now 3 month supply, $100 a month. I think it would be worth the drive!

Yeah, if you're close to the border, just take a day trip!!

Insulin is OTC in Canada, so you just have to go in and ask for it!

Should be no issue going across with medications. When coming across tell them you are coming for a day trip to go shopping for some cheaper diabetic supplies.

Going back just make sure to be aware of the allowable amount that you can bring in being away for 24 hours or less.

That's the concern. How frowned upon is is by our border guards? The info that I skimmed said 3 month supply, so techinically I could get 2 bottles for Rufus. I'm pretty sure they (US) doesn't want us going across for meds, even though I'm sure it's done all the time. I guess I'm just a little frieghtened it would be confiscated.

No, ProZinc is an animal insulin and has to be purchased through a vet. Lantus is a human insulin so it's available OTC in Ontario pharmacies.
