Gracie is 31 days without insulin. I'm happy, but I'm more concerned that she hasn't lost weight since she finally became stable. I decreased food, tried playing with her more ,but she still is staying at 12.6.

The vet said 11.9 is where Gracie should be, but at this point I'm trying to convince myself she is healthy and fine.

That's not too far off what the vet is suggesting. I would consider a pound "overweight" to be acceptable.
Before FD Chuck was a little plump at 13 pounds. Now he's 12.6 pounds and not plump at all. I think he would be ok gaining another pound but he's maintaining his weight and his BG is still not regulated. I consider that a win since he fought so hard to gain weight from his lowest of 9 pounds.

I agree with Steph, that you aren't talking about a big difference between where she is and what the vet wants. How did your vet determine her weight? Did she take measurements and body composition? Or just look at her and name an "ideal" weight? I'm just curious because my vet just looks at my cats and tells me which seems a little shady to me :bookworm:o_O

If she seems a little plump to you though, keep at it - losing weight can be slow, especially for indoor kitties. And remember too that she had a few days on higher carb food recently which is the biggest cause of weight gain, so that might have slowed her down a bit.

One trick is to put her as far away as you can from where she wants to be. So for example, when it's time to eat, I pick Atticus up and walk him into the bedroom, then I put his food down in the kitchen so he has to walk his chubby little butt back down the hall. Same with treats - if I'm going to give him a treat, I go as far as I can away from him, or toss them down the hallways so he has to waddle after them. And sometimes I just pick him up and move him to a different room with me. Then he glares at me and goes back to where he was in the first place. It's not a ton of exercise, but since he just looks at toys instead of playing with them, at least it's something! And it is working, since I started this forced movement routine, he's lost almost half a pound, but it's been awhile. He definitely isn't losing weight quickly.

9 pounds is tiny, as least I think it is. Gracie went from 17--> 11 and that was scary. I didn't notice at first. I mean, I was totally OK when Gracie was a little chubby.

LOL!!! I don't necessarily think she is plump, but I do admit I did see a photo of her earlier today shortly after I brought her home from the shelter and she was a little smaller. I technically don't know if she was smaller. She was just able to lay on the window seal then. Now, she has to stand. Maybe it's age too.

Yep, my vet did it by looking at her weight and looking at her. No body measurements. Well, I can do that too. And I don't need a fancy paper to tell me.

I like the food trick. I'm going to have to give it a try. Although, the second she hears a can open she's quick to jump on the chair then counter to eat. I guess I'll need to pick her up and put her in the bedroom and make her waddle out. Haha:joyful::joyful:

He was so tiny and his bones stuck out. He was in very poor condition. Looked like he was neglected and starved.

Goodness. He does look neglected! Obviously, we know he wasn't though.

@FurBabiesMama LOL. I told myself in the beginning of Gracie's Dx that I would go on a low carb diet with her. Let's just say- she is winning.

I seem to crave sugar/carbs so much of the time since all this started. What is up with that?? You would think the opposite would be true since I see the impact carbs/sugar have and what it is like to live with diabetes.

Right?!? I guess since it isn't happening to us it isn't as serious.
My sugar/carb cravings come in waves.
